We just branched #Qt 6.12.0 off and are putting the final touches on the new long-term supported Qt release. One of the quality-of-life highlights: faster iteration cycles with Hot Reload for #QML! Read all about it in Ulf's blog post: forum.qt.io/topic/165070...

A lot of amazing work has been done by very talented people since I aired that idea at #KDE Akademy 2021, not really knowing if it would be possible and what it would take. Very very cool to see this see the light today, well done to the whole #Qt team 🥳

From what I hear from the people I know in the area (which is by no means a representative bunch), it's a historical quirk rather than a real-life issue.
110
Volker Hilsheimer @vohi.bsky.social · 16/06/2026
So the issue barely presents itself elsewhere. In Israel, any two people can get registered similar to "samboer" in Norway, with largely the same privileges as married couples. Or get married abroad, or over e.g. video conference.

In varying degrees, the system continues to exist in most countries of the former Ottoman empire. It's by no means an Israelic invention. After the invasion of the Levant in 1948, most of those countries are pretty much devoid of Jews (and with few exceptions, Christians).
110
Volker Hilsheimer @vohi.bsky.social · 16/06/2026
For Jews, the system generally was seen as favourable, as it promised some degree of independence for their otherwise prosecuted nation. Under the British mandate, the system was mostly maintained, perpetuating the ethno-religiously siloed political landscape we see today.

Volker Hilsheimer @vohi.bsky.social · 16/06/2026
Historically, the "Millet System" (millet means nation) originates in (or probably predates) the Ottoman empire, where confessional communities were allowed to rule themselves under their own laws. In the latter years of the empire, this became increasingly codified.

Volker Hilsheimer @vohi.bsky.social · 16/06/2026
This is a bit misleading. Israel has no concept of civil marriage. Marriages are performed by the religious authorities, and those don’t perform interfaith marriage. People can just live together as registered partners. Nobody gets prosecuted for having an interfaith or gay relationship.

Ok, thanks; Android 16 support is still being worked on, so that might contribute. But we have seen similar glitches also on other devices/versions, e.g. see bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG..., which should be fixed for 6.8.4 (and 6.9.2, which just dropped). Hard to say if it's the same issue though.
