We are sad to announce that we have been told by Wizards that they will no longer support us with either funding or invites to Organized Play events. Without this support - especially the invites - it is impossible for us to continue, and there will be no more VML seasons going forward.

We are sad to announce that we have been told by Wizards that they will no longer support the VML program with either funding or invites to Organized Play events.

Without this support - especially the invites - it is impossible for the league to continue, and there will be no more VML seasons going forward.

Over the past five years, we’ve radically changed competitive Magic for the better. When we started the program with 26 players back in Season 1, we never thought that we would end up having served hundreds of competitors and with over a thousand people in our community. We have sent cohorts of people to the Set Championships, Regional Championships, and Pro Tour. As a result of our program, representation of people of marginalized genders at the highest levels of play has multiplied from a handful at each event to over twenty who will play at PT Chicago. Several of our team members and players have gone on to be hired to work at Wizards.

We are also proud of the change we’ve created in the broader sense. The Magic community is a much more diverse, vibrant, and inclusive place than it was five years ago. The gender balance at in-person events has improved significantly, and the overall image of the game has changed for the better. We don’t claim to have caused all of that, but we are happy knowing our efforts have played a part.

We want to thank all the organizations who have worked with us and supported the cause: Good Luck High Five, Lodestone Coffee, NRG, Team Arclight, MTG Melee, BOP!, and the many wonderful creators, personalities, and players who have contributed.

To everyone who has been a part of the team here: you have all been brilliant, and without your passion and dedication we would not have made it this far. Every single one of you has gone above and beyond, giving your time and effort generously to the program and you should be extremely proud of yourselves.

Finally, to our awesome community: we’re sorry that we couldn’t keep this projec…

I'm halfway there-- I'm now getting ready to locate a rental place in Vancouver and/or Victoria. Two weeks from now I'll be riding the rails. If you can donate to help me get safely situated in British Columbia, it'd go a long way to helping me not panic. bit.ly/3DAdSxq

Wanted to add to this thread so it doesn’t get buried: please don’t blame any humans working at Wizards directly. We have worked with many of them and everyone has been warm and helpful. From the outside, we don’t know what kind of pressure they’re under. 💜

Imagine going to your first con. You’re 19. You’re recently out. You’ve never felt like anywhere is safe for you. And you’re about to attend a convention with 18,000 other people. But you’re excited. You’re so excited. You save up money for a ticket. You pack all night long. You post your TSA woes 🧵

VML @vmlmtg.bsky.social · 05/12/2024

We also have @autumnlilypad.bsky.social, a PT champion and fresh off of a win in season 13. An incredible player and creative deckbuilder, we can't wait to see what it will do next weekend!

VML @vmlmtg.bsky.social · 05/12/2024

@worldwaker2.bsky.social is our Season 12 champion, and as long as she doesn't submit a limited deck in constructed (it's happened before!) she's definitely a competitor to keep your eye on!

VML @vmlmtg.bsky.social · 05/12/2024

Asha Mills Emmet has had a breakout year headlined with a second place finish in the Canadian RC. They played carefully tuned UBx midrange in that event for most of their time in the VML, so there constructed deck will be one to watch for any who enjoy that archetype!

VML @vmlmtg.bsky.social · 05/12/2024

Next is Aspi! A VML regular, limited master (recently achieving a lifetime arena limited winrate of 70%!) and fierce competitor, she'll be one to keep your eyes on in the limited rounds!

VML @vmlmtg.bsky.social · 05/12/2024

Next up we have long time VML competitor @mythicmikaela.bsky.social! With 11 seasons of competing in the VML, including a second place finish, under her belt will she be able to show these new kids how it's done?

VML @vmlmtg.bsky.social · 05/12/2024

First up we have former VML Champion, @jasoniltg.bsky.social. After an incredible year, including two Pro Tour top 8s, will it be able to add another accolade to it's resume this weekend?
