After submitting a formal #complaint of #discrimination with the Washington State Human Rights Commision against this year's #Worldcon organizers for a violation of RCW Chapter 49.60, titled Washington Law Against Discrimination (WLAD), I sent this letter to the Washington State Convention Center:

I am writing because Seattle Worldcon 2025 is being held at the Seattle Convention Center this August, an event from which I've received an unexplained ban, despite inquiring twice to date as to why this might be, and receiving no answer. I'm including the only communication I've yet to receive from the Chair, Kathy Bond, so you can verify the complete lack of grievance or reason. There is no appeal process provided, and when I emailed Ms. Bond requesting access to one, she has not responded to my email. I've already filed a complaint with the Washington Human Rights Commission and contacted the State Attorney General. It was suggested that, in the interest of time, I contact both you and the various insurers of the Center.

Without an explanation, I suspect that it's due to one of my several qualifying protected statuses for protection against discrimination, with my Jewish background being an incredibly concerning and realistic possibility, especially in these times of rising anti-semitism and violence against Jewish people. It is worth noting that this same organization banned one of its Guests of Honor for the first time in its history, another literary female professional of Jewish heritage, Toni Weisskopf, only four years ago. Additionally, the explanation for the ban comes perilously close to scapegoating, citing the online conduct of others, not Ms. Weisskopf herself, as the reason for the ban. However, my heritage is not my only protected status against discrimination. I also have non-visual disabilities that could explain an unreasoned ban, including C-PTSD and other trauma-based neurological differences, or it could be due to my assumed sexual orientation, which has been the subject of much gossip in the past few months among this community.
