I forgot! I'm doing that Dreadtober thing that the cool kids are doing. I'm already most the way done. But I'm sure I'll get distracted and forget to paint any more and then have to rush to finish it at the last minute. I also want a missile launcher arm, cos that loadout is hilarious in 2E.

First stripping is done. And now they're free from their rather thick paint you can see the insane amount of detail. No idea how they managed it in the early 80s.

One of those photos is then used on the front and back of the models box, the datafax, and in the Imperial Guard Collectors Guide. I don't think the model reappears again in White Dwarf. I've had a quick skim through every issue until WD 243 when the 'new' plastic sentinel appears.

Another classic miniature mystery. I sat down to try and paint a long leggy sentinel. Doing my 'copy the studio army' thing. But I'm not able to find a single picture of the other side of this model. Its released in June 1988 in WD 222, there are two photos from nearly the same angle in it.

Is this going anywhere? Right now not really. I've already recreated some of the ablative side skirts to put on a Vindicator for my Novamarines army. But I can't quite decide what I'm doing with that currently. I may have gone on ebay and bought a Predator Destructor though...

But in searching I got looking at other vehicles with the extra armour kit... it appears both Mark Bedford and Paul Sawyer did a mod to theirs. Chopping down the end pieces to make them more sleek to match the track units. Which looks neat! Wonder how many other people have noticed over the years.

I got to wondering: Has anyone ever used the extra turret armour? I didn't recall seeing it, and wasn't even sure which tank it was for. I'd guessed the Predator Destructor. Which turned out to be correct, managed to dig up these two photos of them. (thanks to @metzopaino.bsky.social for the help)

Dear Blue-sky come on an adventure with me: Earlier someone posted a picture of some odd shaped lumps of metal on one of the Warhammer valuation FB groups. I instantly knew they were the Rhino Ablative Armour set (In production about '02-'04-ish). I helped out with the ID but it didn't end there.

Looks like they might be stripped out which is a real pain. There are a few different types of security fasteners with this kind of pin in the middle. Usually a set of bits will have most if not all of them in. You might be able to get them out by using pliers to grip the outside of the heads.

This Inductii squad is another unit where I mixed Mks. Lots of MkV with some MkVI and prototype MkVII. Sometimes I'll mix mks but use the same backpack to help unify the silhouette a little.

Thanks! Not sure they'll be that many of them. Got about a platoon and some extra heavy weapons at the moment. Then I'm off to paint a different regiment for the second platoon, as is traditional for 2nd Ed. Do have a few snaps though.

The standard bearer is mostly this sergeant, with his bolt pistol cut away and a piece of wire for the standard added. The sword comes from the other Cadian sergeant. And the banner is from a modern Cadian plastic kit.

Two excellent games of 40k 2nd Ed against @drezavelt.bsky.social today. Guard vs Guard turned out to be a bit of a bloodbath both times. Though no thanks to anyone armed with a lasgun. Certainly learnt a lot about playing a new army.

Who knew buying the new Zone Mortalis book would get so expensive. Testing out just how dense I want the walls. I think this is about right. I can always add some scatter terrain on top of the fixed walls.

Very sad to hear the passing of John Blanche. A fine fellow who I had the absolute privilege of crossing paths with a few times. The only photo I've got with him is this snap from bugmans, after a long day of fun games at WHW. Alongside many lovely hobby people who I don't see as often as I should.
