Drew my WoL (@ethryaswiftstep.bsky.social) for stickers to trade at GATEway FATE! Super looking forward to it!!

Waist-up digital illustration of a lalafell sage smiling at the viewer with their nouliths flying about them. They're wearing a fancy white robe with golden details and asymmetrical black fur collar trim, gloves with partial armor and gray fabric palms, round golden glasses, and mismatched earrings. They have dark brown hair with subtle red streaks and bright green eyes. One hand is held in front of them with the other extended out toward their side. Three of the nouliths fly behind them while the fourth streaks across the front with its aether trail backing text that reads "Ethrya Swiftstep" and then, smaller, "Coeurl, Crystal". Art by Moth Monarch, who is also this character's player in FFXIV.

Vih-NAH-low Mah-boo-NAH-low Like most traditional Lalafellin names, it's more or less pronounced as written, the only correction I sometimes have to make being that the first syllable is 'vih,' not 'vee.'

Somehow this is more awkward than Vinalo just standing on the seat. It's another case of feeling *smaller* on a min-height au ra than on a lalafell. I mean it's hilarious, but goddamn.

Sometimes I have to stand in awe at my team's absolute dedication to avoiding fighting the enemy in Frontline. The second a B-rank spawns halfway across the map, the team abandons fighting as if the point capture is needed to cleanse their souls of the sin of conflict.

Vinalo answers completely truthfully. To them, their age is just a showing of how much life they've experienced, and that they've persisted in all of it. Recently turning 40 hasn't done except have Misha joke "Ohhh! You are going to catch up with me soon!" with the goofiest grin possible.

I think I briefly played Mystic Quest quite some time before, but VI was the first I played for real. It was actually *after* I played Chrono Trigger on release. It's not my top favorite FF at this point, but it still holds a very special place in my heart.

Botanical Healer @vinalo.bsky.social · 21/08/2026

I would be happy if there was just a simple <Healer> title. There would be none more appropriate for Vinalo.

Botanical Healer @vinalo.bsky.social · 20/08/2026

Vinalo is fairly competent with basic household repairs and maintenance. Their father Tamido was something of a handyman along with his day job of miner, and made sure to teach his 'son' as much as he knew. Anything more serious and Vinalo *will* get a hold of someone more skilled.

Botanical Healer @vinalo.bsky.social · 17/08/2026

RP Vinalo has sorta roughly aged in real time ever since I established their age at all, so they were *probably* mid-late 20s when ARR started. As it stands, Vinalo is currently on the cusp of 40, with their nameday being at the very end of the month.

Alcohol makes Vinalo rather sick to their stomach, so they avoid it entirely. They'd rather be sober and clear of mind regardless, but avoiding puking is rather enough of a reason in itself.

Ah yes, another thing. Aarna doesn't know her literal nameday, and instead simply uses the date her dad found her: 10th of 3rd Astral. Likewise, she doesn't know her actual age, but is fairly certain she's somewhere close to 30.

Botanical Healer @vinalo.bsky.social · 03/08/2026

I realize I've yet to formally introduce Aarna. Time to change that. This is Aarna Fachu, a Thavnairian Raen. She was orphaned at a young age, only finding family when a Lalafellin man from Limsa Lominsa decided to settle down on the tropical island nation after years of sailing. 1/?

An Au ra woman with white scales and horns, looking up at the viewer. She's wearing a layered blue garment, with a sheathed katana at her hip. She has tanned skin and orange-brown hair.

Some slightly mixed feelings on a couple of the new racial customizations (removing the Viera bun nose shading is for cowards), but FINALLY decoupling Au ra horns and faces is a looooong time coming. Very glad to see it. However, Aarna is: Already Perfect. 🦎

Really, only two: Vinalo Mabunalo, who is my special bean that I have written extensively about, with years worth of RP. But now I have Aarna Fachu, who started as a repurposed/fantasia'd alt for other world FC access. Now she's a whole-ass person with a history and everything!

Botanical Healer @vinalo.bsky.social · 31/07/2026

I understand that it *is* daunting to see that XIV is basically playing six rpgs in a row, but I truly see the strong focus on narrative as the game's greatest strength. I really don't want that ever to be treated as an expendable aspect of the game.

A raised eyebrow and strained chuckle. "No, I'm really not. Unless you count my hair color, I've not much in common with Mum. She's right prone to inaction and keeping her head down, though she's gotten better recently. At least enough to push my arse of a father to get a little better himself."

In my experience, it's what I *don't* do that so so many SGE in DF do: being Eukrasian Prognosis uptime machines. It baffles me how many think they have to maintain full-party shields at ALL TIMES. They also seem to barely use any of their addersgall spenders/oGCDs at all. It's baffling!

Random kvetch thread: I have seen far too many people who proclaim the only “valid” response to Zenos's question at the end of EW is the first one, even going as far as to say that the other two are “non-canon” and only there to placate people. I have more than a few problems with this entire idea:

RP Vinalo is pretty much Conjurer+. They're very skilled and experienced, and have a little extra oomph thanks to brute-forcing some white magic technique years ago. Of course, they simply called themself 'healer' if asked.

extremely indulgent completely nonsensical crossover based on two of my interests. #phm #ffxiv

FFXIV x PHM crossover.
Grace is a scholar. His fairy is armando.
Rocky is a machinist. and an omnicrafter.

Grace is a scholar because he's an academic scientist typa person. Stratt is a black mage because she's very calculated and holds a lot of power. Carl is a gunbreaker because his job is bodyguard.

Grace and rocky are stuck in ultima thule together. And then meteion shows up as the arbiter of astrophage or some shit. Idk i'm just making shit up.

No such name change happened when Vinalo married Misha, as traditional Lalafellin names simply don't work like that. There's no family name *to* change. Kinda wish there was some flag in-game to account for that.
