This is correct. One time my Uncle John forgot to give me a gift so he went out to his car and gave me an extra welding face shield he had and gave it to me (which I loved and my parents hated). Uncles are simply built different like that.

Favorite trad folk/gospel song, the rendition of it is just absolutely haunting and beautiful. The way you can feel the weight of Kristin’s singing is just crushing. I love her instrumentation and the effects added to her vocals.

Some pics from the AIDS Run/Walk yesterday that I participated in via my job. Not doxxing my coworkers and board members, hence the emojis over faces. Anyway my team raised just short of $40,000 to support clients facing emergencies or in need of support which is pretty cool. It was a fun time!

I do not like that this story broke containment outside of trans/ queer/ disabled spaces because of how those who hate us will use it as fodder to dismiss everyone wholesale, but also they would have used any excuse to do that anyway. It feels like specific phenomenon where, when the rules or systems put in place break down or are disrupted then some people take it upon themselves to become their own cops in place of actual authority and use whatever means they have to feel that they have control or can bring about justice.

Not having control of larger forces that affect your health and environment is scary. Because you cannot change The System, you target smaller organizers as an outlet. But those people are oftentimes also not able to do much about the larger forces that be unless they have serious capital or money.

E.g. this clique requested that we have a mask requirement at a bar where the space is donated for free by the bar owner to us for a social event where I have no control or say of how the bar runs. Even if we requested attendees mask, the bar staff can do whatever. We didn’t actually have any power.

Yeah it’s by the developer of Cruelty Squad and it’s extremely odd in a way I enjoy. It has the gameplay of some kind of weird indie FPS before controls were standardized and graphics were super crunchy. Definitely not a general rec lol. Have just been playing Binding of Isaac Rebirth otherwise

I did buy the SH-101, Juno 60, and Jupiter 8 plugins from TAL Spftware and they’re really nice. The Arturia J8 feels accurate but it doesn’t quite capture the essence of the synth, to me. Anyway those are probably my most used software synths outside of Operator in Ableton. tal-software.com/products

Not quite the same thing, but the US avoided this problem by the postal workers being heavily unionized and making sure their positions were attractive to other parties than the main demographic they were employing. I they would have to make the roles better or face a shortage.

It’s like that idea that you don’t want to meet your heros because the reality of them being less than what you build up in your mind will shatter the illusion. We all want to navigate a world that is easier to parse, but maybe pushing against that and for complexity is something we benefit from.

I’ve been thinking lately about how simplifying somebody, whether to see them as sub-human/beneath you or seeing them as a perfect and positive example worth striving for, are both different but both dehumanizing in that they reduce the complexity of that person to something less than they are.
