You can tell which benchmarks for agentic coding are decent now because they ain't getting updated.

Cyberbullying doesn't begin in schools. It begins in a society that can only go online if everyone has only one identity that has to match with your ID.

It's already friday and Portuguese media are still reporting on a cold slice of last week #AI news. This just in: ex-Anthropic employee says AI can kill us all. No mention of the renewed consensus from OpenAI, Anthropic and xAI. No mention of the official response from China. #Portugal

People keep saying that frameworks like #tailwind or even #stylex are good for agents, but are they working in our current reality where even frontier LLMs still suck at frontend and #CSS?

Whenever we can identify some way in which LLMs can't count Rs on the word strawberry, that's fixed now. Turns out that product managers can take over the world if we let them. Given infinite resources, language can be composed in infinite ways.

So I've dropped down from Pro to Plus to get the average #openai Astra coding experience. Good news: you can always use your phone to tell it to go ahead after it gets interrupted by the 5h limit. Bad news: you can blow through two 5h limits with a single prompt, no fast mode, GPT 6 High.
Screenshot of a Codex (ChatGPT) coding agent session showing a scrollable log of executed commands, including several 'tail', 'python3', 'jq', 'mkdir', and 'command -v ruff' entries with their run times. Below the log, an orange usage-limit notice reads: 'You've hit your usage limit. Upgrade to Pro (https://chatgpt.com/explore/pro), visit https://chatgpt.com/codex/settings/usage to purchase more credits or try again at 6:05 PM.' A downward arrow icon and a footer showing '2 files +337 −15' (added/removed lines) appear at the bottom.

Programmers grow in knowledge as they write code. Compilers are deterministic and don't cost you more for each line of text they take in. Determinism and practical knowledge is how most systems are maintained. It's how you fix bugs.

Posting slop online and calling it good is a tactic that abuses communities by having them check your work when there's zero work from you in these posts. This has been around before #genAI but now it can be automated by feeding the responses back into the machine and repeating the cycle.

See the number of people walking by in the street with their heads on their phones? That's how glassholes are no longer assholes. We need some decent alternatives for people to walk and phone without cameras propagating mass surveillance. Technology doesn't have to suck, but it also shouldn't Zuck.

So far, version control systems have served to identify the problem, but not the solution. To understand any of them, you have to confront the issue of merge conflicts and walk back from them. A challenge with git can be about your code, your workflow or an understanding of #git itself.

At least half the purpose of a code review is there to benefit a team of software developers and their understanding of the project. If we automate that to a point where no human is learning anything, we should call code review something else.

Efforts for promoting the #fediverse need to recognise that, for a first impression, a gazillion options is too much and just one is too little. Maybe aim for two. You like chocolate or strawberry? You can even have both.

Inflation is also rising artificially in #Portugal with a scheme that has already failed in Scotland or Malta. As always, it starts by charging more for plastic packaging that eventually you can redeem. But with no incentive to make redemption work, you just get charged more. Let the boycotts begin.

Social media is just some websites on the internet that people keep going to. And governments like to make lists of websites they don't want people to go to. But they let you go to the website if it tells you to vote for them and that works.
