A lot of people in the comments are mentioning that USA Today is owned by Gannett. One of my big concerns is that *every* Gannett-owned newsroom might have access to my interview now. I will never interview with any of them again.

As an update for anyone who isn’t digging through the comments: I found more articles by USA Today journalists I’ve never met. There are THREE that used quotes from my interview recording—including many quotes that were never publicly published anywhere else.

While digging around their website, I found their ethics policy—including a section on AI-generated content. I suspect that’s a part of what happened here. And I’m upset about that too! I did NOT speak to a journalist with the assumption that my interview would be funneled into producing AI slop.

Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of. What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

Most of my books did not make the cross-country move because I didn't want to pay another grand for an extra relo cube. But the CDs came with me because I could take them out of their cases, stow them in a CD book, then stash the booklets in a shoebox.

Another facet of this to watch is the new NC law that we no longer get license plate stickers/registration cards. This opens the door for "stop and frisk" whether you've committed a moving violation or not. Cops can say that they ran your plate & came up w/an error so they pull you over.

Tens of millions of American motorists believe there's nothing wrong with texting at a stoplight. Or driving 73 in a 60mph zone. Or changing lanes without signaling. Or rolling right on red without coming to a full stop. But somebody has to do something about cyclists who don't follow the rules.

I'm going to catch up on Clancy's eye drop schedule, as well as some neglected housework, then go spend the afternoon with Charlie. The folks at VEG have been super nice, and they're 5 minutes away from home, which helps a lot.

They admitted him and expect him to be there for 24-48 hours. I called this morning (they would have let me stay overnight, but I still have Clancy to take care of and he needs 8 eye drops/day). He is comfortable and tolerating the nasal gastric tub + other treatments.

Charlie was really not doing well, so I had to pack him up and head to the emergency vet last night. He wasn't eating and it looked like he was trying to 💩 but couldn't because he is also very dehydrated, despite drinking from his new fountain.
