as far as i know, libraries & librarians have been bigger champions of my work than anyone in publishing. librarians put yummy & tasty in front of young readers who LOVED them. & almost all readers who reach out to me abt please be my star found it at libraries (or somewhere they got it for free)

the goog im drawing lately is more a return to The Original Goog from my college newspaper days, where the character was a bit more ... eccentric ? i was reading these strips again recently & cracking the fuck up. this is from around 2010

A fluffy sheepduck type creature called a goog sits on a rock in safari gear.

Narrator: Our silent host begins by surveying the area of dangerous predators.
The goog peers through binoculars perched on a rock (because he has no arms).

Narrator: Fortunately, the only nearby animal appears to be the peaceful kiwi, a flightless bird native to the island.
POV from the binoculars of a kiwi eating, like, mushrooms on a log or something.

Narrator: However, Goog seems to have abandoned his post for a more ~desirable~ setting...
The goog is missing; the binoculars have fallen off the rock.

Reading this AMA is healing my soul in ways I would not expect. God, its so good to read someone who's so earnest and passionate about art and making things weird and magical.

For example, I said all the walls and the floor in the Pale Man’s lair have to be blood red. Now, this is apparently a big gesture, and we thought about it, and our production designer, said, “This makes no sense.” And I said, “It *will* make sense visually. It *will* feel natural.” And most people don't notice a lot of little details in that room, like, most everything is a mouth, because it’s about voracity. Most of the doors are shaped like a mouth, the chimney is a mouth, the archways are mouths. The corridor is a mouth. These are things that people don't notice, but I'm proud about the way the real world and the magical world are designed so differently.

Just in the way that 80% of our communication is nonverbal, I think 80% of a movie exists in a liminal layer beyond the conscious. I think the great language of Kubrick, the great language of Hitchcock, the great language of Buñuel— *David Lynch*. God damn it. David Lynch. Fuck me blue. That fucking guy was skating on that liminal layer his whole fucking life. These are things that are unprocessed, skateboarding on the subconscious. And I think the brain catches all of it. And processes it at a human level that is not linear, that is not ideas that have been approved before.
