You're very obviously implying it was because of the lawsuit, or you'd have no reason to point out it was during the lawsuit. You can't just move the burden of proof onto someone else because you technically didn't say the exact words.

I wouldn't be surprised if the similarities Were intentional, but it's often way overexaggerated how much was actually the same, and it doesn't make Palworld a good example for your original point of "this entire game is an exact 1 to 1 copy of this entire other game."

They changed the designs because Pokémon fans wouldn't stop raising a huge stink over them, or maybe they always planned to make the designs less "pokémon-like" for the 1.0 release after the game got enough attention. We'll never know for certain the actual reason.

No, these design elements are way too simple (and clearly come from the same inspirations outside of Pokémon) for any claims of copying to be taken seriously. If you asked 10 people to draw a "cheshire cat grin" with no references, I'm certain at least a few of them would look identical too.

I think wide eyes and sharp-toothed grins are very common elements to have, actually. I looked into it and it turns out I was misinformed. Apparently Temtem bought the rights to the fakemon design that I had heard was stolen. Still, everything else about that game is directly ripped from Pokémon.

I still don't agree that any of the Palworld designs were lifted directly, they had a lot of similar design elements, but none of them were 1 to 1. And anyway, that still doesn't exempt some of the other pokémon-likes. Iirc, Temtem directly lifted designs from fanart.

Maybe that's part of the "special sauce" you were talking about earlier in regards to which indie games are treated as "real" games. At least, Undertale did a good job at trojan horsing its messages.

The other grounds were bullshit too. From what I've seen of Palworld, nothing else in it looks even similar to Pokémon besides vague concepts that no one should have copyright over. There are far more blatant "Pokémon-likes" out there that don't get a fraction of the hate that Palworld gets.

They were never being sued over the designs, nor were the designs 1 to 1 in the first place. And even if they were, it's still weird to say a game is 1 to 1 with another because one piece of it used to be.
