Since the election, I keep seeing well meaning people telling trans Americans that they should leave the US and declare asylum. Please, please, please, fucking stop this shit. To my knowledge, there isn’t a country in the world that would grant the asylum request of a trans American today. 1/2

If you are trans, live in America, and travel to a foreign country, I suggest tagging in a trusted friend when you are reentering the US. Tell the friend the time and port so they can plan to be ready. Then, when you near reentry, send a message that you are nearing customs. 1/2

I’ve updated my pronouns. She/her. I’ve removed “they” from my preferred pronouns list. When I first came out, I had memories that are best described as genderless. Now that I’ve been myself for over a year, it’s clear that these memories were based on how I went through the world, not who I am.

The results from The Trevor Project’s 2024 national survey show that when queer youth was asked what people can do to support them, a whopping 88% said that people should believe them when they say who they are. Supporting queer youth does not take a Herculean effort. Just start by believing them.

After socially transitioning, I continued to have people sending things to my old email address, containing my deadname. So I changed my name literally to deadname and put an out of office message on telling them I won’t check this address. Amazing how fast people switched after saying it was hard.

Friday I was on a call at work with someone I worked with circa 2006 at a past company. So I needed to decide if I would out myself or not. I chose not to because there were people on that call that know me now and don’t know my deadname. There’s no way I trust a cis person not to deadname me.

We were at Laurie Children’s Hospital today with at least 500 new friends protesting their decision to discontinue providing gender affirming care. In the last two weeks at least 17 trans teens have taken their lives in Illinois. There is no reason to comply in advance. #transrightsarehumanrights

We need to stop calling the Vice President by his initials. He’s part of the Executive Branch that issued an Executive Order that attempts to keep teachers from using a transgender kid’s preferred name. So, I won’t be using his preferred name. He’s John David Vance to me from now on.

How about some good news? Illinois Governor signed HB 5164 into law. This law reduces the residency requirement to change your name to 90 days, allows name changes to be impounded and removes the requirement for public notice so that women leaving her abuser and trans people can keep their privacy!
