The true miracle of software is the amount of stupid technical decisions it can tolerate.

Since I've somehow become a relatively popular person, I had a privilege to observe human behavior on a decent scale. One thing I noticed is that when people criticize me they are often talking about themselves. So yeah, criticize me and I'll tell you who you are, I guess. :)

FMLA is a good start but not enough. Isn’t the US supposed to be the richest part of the way. So many disabled people could work if leave was available. It also needs to be illegal to retaliate when an employee takes leave (I know that exists for FMLA). #chronicillness #disability

Never forget that some people are deemed unworthy of life. And that is why we are terrified of the Assisted Dying Law.
A screenshot that has a handwritten whiteboard note at the top - like a headline- that reads “who do we not save?”
The text below says:

The final line of the board is the starkest - the question of who would not be saved if the NHS came under threat.
While the NHS avoided being completely overwhelmed, this is not just a hypothetical scenario. Even with lockdown, campaigners have raised the alarm over claims some care homes and learning disability services placed blanket "do not resuscitate" orders on all of their residents. Care home residents were discharged from hospitals to infect their neighbours, in order to free up beds.
Nevertheless, this prospect of doctors having to make snap decisions about who lived or died if oxygen ran out - the horrors currently being suffered in India - may well ultimately have tipped the scales in favour of a lockdown.

I dislike the word "follower" in SM. I talk to people, I discuss, sometimes I argue, etc. But I'm not a "follower". Same with my "followers" - you talk to me, read me, but would you say you (literally) "follow" me? Is it only me who think this word is ridiculous in this context?

This is another example of disabled people being the proverbial canaries in the coal mine. We’ve been screaming for years about the dangers of supply chain issues and medication shortages. 🧵 on tariffs, income inequality and disability rights
Screenshot from Courtney Waller which reads. Fun fact about tariffs no one is even considering while we're all freaking out about the every day items
Did you know that the US imports approximately 47% of medicine from foreign countries?
Including:
95% of ibuprofen
91% of hydrocortisone
70% acetaminophen
40% of penicillin
Data is not specific or reliable for the amount of cancer drugs and cardiovascular medications. But we do import them too. (There was a shortage here in recent years and the data swung high, however that was meant to be on a temporary basis)
$1.5 billion worth of ingredients for medications we manufacture here are imported.
Importation of meds has risen 600% in the past 8 years
The bulk of this comes from China and India
This doesn't even touch medical devices which we also are one of the world's largest importers
