I think that including an option to disable those scenes *and a description of what those scenes entail* in a non-judgemental way is a fantastic solution! The devs did that! They won! Then they fucked it all up and spit in the face of their own work by trashing it entirely. Just embarrassing.

No, I don't like them. But they're still a part of the work and what it has to say. Superhot and Superhot VR are *about things*, and yes, those things include self-harm. It's *supposed* to be disturbing and uncomfortable. That's kind of the point.

Personally, I didn't like those scenes. They felt gratuitous to me and were disturbing enough that I was very happy when the devs added the option to disable them. The problem came when the devs decided to remove them from the work altogether.
