Bishop's Mitre shieldbugs were abundant during last week's wildlife group visit to Dudmaston NT property in Shropshire. So it was perhaps unsurprising that we also found the Bishop's Mitre Parasite Fly, Cistogaster globosa, a small Tachinid.

Found my first wild #cockroach last night. It was chilling on the bathroom ceiling (because where else would it be?!). I think it’s a dusky cockroach, possibly a nymph. Can anyone confirm that for me please? The thorax was lighter than it looks in the photos. #insects #entomology
An insect with black eyes, very long antennae pale, spiky legs and a pair of short, thin appendages on the rear of its abdomen sits in white pot lid. Its top half (head and thorax) are light brown and its abdomen is dark brown. The wings are transparent. Some cockroaches seen in Jersey last week: female Tawny Cockroach with ootheca; female and male Variable Cockroaches. These last are now rather common, their rate of spread across Europe in recent times is incredible.
Tawny Cockroach, Ectobius pallidus, female carrying ootheca.Female Variable Cockroach, Planuncus tingitanus (potentially an aggregate of three species which may end up being anywhere between one & three when the taxonomists have made their minds up!). Note the length of the wings and the pale bar between the eyes.Male Variable Cockroach, Planuncus tingitanus. Wings longer than female but still a bit shorter than a typical Tawny, plus lacking the overall spottiness of Tawny & again with a pale bar between the eyes.
