Vava @vavassor.bsky.social · 14/10/2026I think about this with artists having a narrow range of inspiration. Or a small community of artists that are mutually inspired. Like fermentation, it can lead to delicious art or end up vinegary or rancid. 010

Vava @vavassor.bsky.social · 12/10/2026I addressed this by manually implementing bilinear filtering in the shader. Which looks up the palette colors, *then* does blending. Mipmapping also creates blurring issues. So for that I generated mipmaps using nearest neighbor filter in GIMP and exported as a .dds file. 100
Vava @vavassor.bsky.social · 12/10/2026An greyscale "index" value is used to look up the actual color from a color palette. However an index halfway between two other indexes may be some random palette color. So indices can't be blurred. Which is especially noticeable on this edge where there's random bright colors. 100

Vava @vavassor.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Although you can avoid all of this by using a different mesh for outlines which is fine 000
Vava @vavassor.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Normally sharp edges cause outlines to break apart. So a common technique is to store smooth normals in the vertex colors of a mesh. But I instead stored them in a UV channel, so I can use vertex colors for coloration. 100

Vava @vavassor.bsky.social · 29/09/2026This is really cool! Is it correct that the type of vertex animation isn't that relevant to how this works? Would non-bone animation like shape keys/blend shapes work? 110
Vava @vavassor.bsky.social · 24/09/2026The only ones I get annoyed with are verbs like log in, sign out, shut down, start up, and kick off. Those have to be two words because they become other forms like "logging in" instead of "logining." But nouns I don't care about spaces so much. 000

Vava @vavassor.bsky.social · 11/08/2026It's neat how every way to store a direction in a texture was tried by somebody. I've read the Gamecube used height derivative maps. So each pixel was two channels representing the slope in the X/Y direction. And the slope was -1,1 range, so couldn't represent steeper than 45°. 100
