Had no idea this bluebird was taking off to catch a tiny bug until I got the picture onto a larger screen later. Thought he just had somewhere else to be. #BirdOfTheDay #FirstWingbeat #BusyBirds 📷🌿🪶

A photo of a male western bluebird (Sialia mexicana), a small North American thrush with dark eyes, a dark beak, vivid blue plumage above, and a rusty orange breast. It is captured mid-flight with wings outstretched as it leaves a thin tree branch and pursues a small flying insect among more spring branches with bright green leaves. The background is out of focus greenery.

The #BirdOfTheDay theme today is #FirstWingbeat, capturing the instant of take-off. A Common Kingfisher (IJsvogel) launching from a dive, wings already pulling hard while the water is still catching up. #birds #birdphotography #vogelfotografie #natuurfotografie #wildlife #SonyAlpha #EastCoastKin

A Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) captured mid-exit from a dive, bursting upward from the water surface with wings fully spread and angled downward for lift. The bird’s vivid blue upperparts, teal crown, and russet-orange underparts are visible against a spray of exploding water droplets. The background shows dark green riparian vegetation softly out of focus. The moment is frozen at peak chaos: water still cascading in arcs around the bird as it clears the surface. Shot in natural light with a dark, moody ambient. Photo by Geert Klein Breteler.
