I genuinely want to read a late Meiji or a Taisho-era shōjo novel. It would be genuinely fascinating to read what they were like. Did they have the same tropes modern shōjo manga has?

He is talking about seagulls fighting over a pack of jalapeno-flavoured potato chips. There's a generic robotic voice as an interpreter for him after every line, and somehow the contrast between the passionate Japanese narration and the flat robotic voice is really funny when it's about potato chips

Apparently Hideo Kojima voices a character in Control but it's all in Japanese :)

I saw a video recently where kids thought Weird Al songs are funny AI mashups, and I desperately hope it was acted for views

The mainstreamification of artifical intelligence has completely ruined seeing Al Gore's name written somewhere.

I'm glad I've been able to regain my ability to focus on and get invested in books. At my worst I could barely get through a book a year, partly due to smart phone algorithms rotting my brain and partly due to replacing books with reading manga, but this year I've been able to read plenty!

I was especially pleased because it was a very similar book to An Artist of the Floating World and I got practically nothing out of that one. My ability to focus on books was at the lowest of my life at the time though, so I almost want to give it another chance now.

I finished reading A Pale View of Hills, Kazuo Ishiguro's debut novel, and I loved it. It painted such a vivid image of everything and the story was eerily captivating and shrouded in mystery while discussing grief, post-war trauma and generational and cultural differences very poignantly!

Now that the new Muse album has been out for months now and my opinions about it have had more time to ruminate, I have to admit that I still kind of love it. It's just such a fun record. Every overproduced corny or overly dramatic moment of it is just fun to me. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUlJ...

I'm starting to enjoy Control quite a bit. It started out very slow as the combat did not feel fun at all until you unlocked a couple more abilities, but eventually the combat became really fun

The current retail WoW looks awful and the Classic WoW thing also has zero appeal to me as someone who never played it, but Forever seems like a chill version of the game that would be fun to try for a while just to dive into the world and the lore for a while.

I'm honestly kind of thinking about trying World of Warfcraft Forever. I was a huge Warcraft 3 fan but when WoW came out and for many years after my computer could not run it and I couldn't afford a subscription.

I finished Toumei na Yoru ni Kakeru Kimi to, Me ni Mienai Koi wo Shita. The last episode made me genuinely cry. At around halfway through the show I was disappointed by how it leaned on very dramatic clichés we've all seen before, but the way it handled them at the end was very genuine and heartfelt

And I might obsessively talk about Weezer every god damn week, but I don't love every Weezer album. Most of their 2000s albums are almost completely ignorable to me, aside from Maladroit and now this I guess.

001

Honestly I'm shocked by how much I'm enjoying Hurley by Weezer. It's no one's favourite Weezer album and I ignored it for over a decade, but all these tracks are total late 2000s bangers that I had somehow completely missed! www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5Fq...

Today's run! It was misty. I've already lost a m bit of stamina after the half marathon but not much. Now I'm just trying to run at least once a week to maintain as much of the fitness as possible until winter stops me from running completely until spring

They added so much of the chili's own flavour! Not just spiciness. The same tiny Mexican grocery store also had dried guajillo chilies and now I really want to try them too

I managed to find Mexican dried ancho chilies from Helsinki a couple of days ago and made enchilada sauce yesterday with them. Holy shit these are a complete game-changer! I really wish they were easier to find and not as incredibly expensive as they were! I really want to cook more with these!

I watched The Six Triple Eight! It was really really good!

I also had this incredible smoothie sour that tastes as if you just mixed mango and coconut in a blender with nothing else. Incredibly natural sweetness! A perfect dessert beer.

Annual CoolHead's Octoberfest festbier from a one litre stein! It's delicious this year too, delicious enough that I don't get sick of it despite having a litre of it! (I have a three day weekend this week)

In a slight defence of that particular decision, the Visa application fees in Japan used to be particularly cheap and that only brings the prices to around what they are in most developed countries. The new proposed income requirements for permanent residency are atrocious though.

I tried making Lu rou fan! A Taiwanese braised pork belly rice bowl. It was delicious! The inclusion of takuan, pickled Japanese radish, is historically due to colonial influence, but not meant as an endorsement of colonialism here :P

The new Death From Above 1979 track is pretty solid! At parts it's more metal than what they've done before.

A shorter easier afternoon run!

(Incidentally, students must be wondering why I've been staring into wilted rosehip bushes like a madman for the past couple of days)

Most likely it's still a wild city rabbit, but I'm a bit worried. It's so tiny. I might have to go sit by the bushes after work with kale of something later just in case, to see if it would eventually approach me. It almost certainly wouldn't, but if it did, I would know it's domestic and needs help

110

There's a tiny rabbit that must be just a couple of weeks old that I have seen next to rosehip bushes by the school where I work twice now. Both times it immediately disappeared into the bushes once I got close enough to see it, but it really looked like a domestic rabbit rather than a wild one.

I don't know why its UI received so much praise. I liked the game a lot, but I felt like the UI was constantly actively giving me a headache.

I realise that Blue Album and Pinkerton are their most famous albums and what people want from them is probably as much Blue Album and Pinkerton as possible, they are my favourites too, but I would still love to see a little more variety from their entire catalogue when I'll get to see them live.

It's a shame Weezer doesn't seem to play anything from their SZNZ EPs from a couple of years back during the current tour. For me these are some of the best Weezer ever. Especially the Summer EP. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEv6...

I took an autumn walk in a nearby forest :)

I'm sure the movie turned out much much better thanks to not adapting a story of any single Resident Evil video game. Instead it felt like it perfectly captured the feeling of an ordinary person going through sequences of a typical Resident Evil game.

000

I saw the Resident Evil movie today! It was a genuinelly really well-paced adrenaline bomb of a horror movie! I was really impressed by how good it actually was.

This weekend's beer. It's a fruit beer with mango and pineapple and it's so juicy I could basically be just drinking breakfast juice.
