Add switch to patch msi to disable the patch from stopping/starting an application service
My idea is to add a switch parameter to the patch msi installer to allow me to control when the arcgis server or portal service from stopping before the patch is applied and restarting again after the patch has been applied. Eg. If I have 3 portal patches to install, I want to stop the portal service, wait for the machine…

How to Confirm if an ArcGIS Enterprise Patch is Installed Outside of the Patch Tool?
While I was installing a Portal patch, the server froze and I had to restart the entire server which corrupted the Portal installation. Doing a Portal repair did not work, so I uninstalled Portal which went fine, however a couple Portal patches remained installed in Control Panel. I attempted to uninstall them, but it gave…

Filter / Search for fields in the attribute editor
The Dutch data models for Roads, Water, Electricity, Sewer, etc. contain many fields. Creating hosted feature layer views helps to limit the number of fields, but often CAD users find the need to only work with a subset of those fields and want to filter the fields in the attribute editor, similar to using layer states in…

OpenAI usage statistics when using the vision language model deep learning package
I've been exploring how we can use vision-language models (VLMs) to optimize object classification tasks, drawing inspiration from workflows like Rohit Singh's demonstrations of combining image and text context for robust spatial reasoning. Before I start testing, I wanted to ask one question: Usage and quota impact:…

Converting multiple GeoTIFF to MBTiles or PMTiles
I'm new to Geospatial Data and not familiar with GDAL tools. I'm trying to transform almost 90GB of data divided in 1000 GeoTIFF files. The intention is to be able to serve the images on a web map with GeoShape information on top of the images, and for this as I understand it needs to be a PMTiles unique file in order to serve it correctly on a web map. I have created a VRT with gdalbuildvrt and then make use of gdal_translate to create the mbtiles file with the next command: gdal_translate -of MBTILES -co TILE_FORMAT=WEBP -co QUALITY=80 mosaico_satelite.vrt mosaico_satelite.mbtiles The problem is that it takes almost 140 hours. Is this the only option to create the MBTiles file? Is there an option to create the PMTiles file directly?

Setting single field with DateTime using QgsVectorLayerTemporalProperties
I'd like set the field circled in red below using the QGIS Python interface. I've tried setStartField, setEndField, setDurationField, but none of them set the field. My CSV is formatted as time,x,y,ignited. I currently have the following code. uri = f"file:///{csv}?delimiter=,&xField=x&yField=y&crs=EPSG:2959" layer = QgsVectorLayer(uri, "ignition", "delimitedtext") if not layer.isValid(): print("Failed to load layer!") return QgsProject.instance().addMapLayer(layer) props = layer.temporalProperties() props.setIsActive(True) props.setAccumulateFeatures(True) props.setMode(QgsVectorLayerTemporalProperties.TemporalMode.ModeFeatureDateTimeInstantFromField) # set field how? Am I missing something?

Grids of basemap when exporting PDF in QGIS print layout
I've been getting perpendicular lines through my basemap imagery in my QGIS layout exports to PDF (see photo). Some notes: * The lines do not appear on the export screen. * I have guides built into the layout, but they are not aligned with the lines. * They appear across different imagery sources both WMS and downloaded .TIFF and .JPEG raster files. * They do not appear when I export the composer as an image. * They are not unique to the print layout, when I create another layout from scratch they still show up. * They do not appear in my colleagues' exports using the same .qgis template files. * The lines do not go through the shapes which make up the frame surrounding the basemap. * The lines are in the same spot every time, towards the bottom and right. I haven't been able to find anyone else with this issue on line. My QGIS version is 3.20.3 and I'm on Windows 10 Home, 10.0.19043 Build 19043

Symbology considerations when using dark basemaps
Pop-Quiz: When does it make sense to use a dark basemap? (There can be more than one right answer.) A. When creating a map to be used in low-light environments (e.g. field worker collecting data at night) B. When creating a map to be shown on a large monitor in an Operations Control Center C. When creating a map about a heavy, somber topic D. When creating a map for workshop materials that will be printed out in individual packets Hopefully you chose A, B, and C. Creating a map with a dark basemap is usually for a screen rather than for print. Creating a map for which light is coming through a display monitor is different from creating a map that will be printed out on paper. Furthermore, creating a dark map in which light is coming through a display monitor is different yet again. This blog post will cover some symbology considerations for dark basemaps. Color ramps designed for dark basemaps Do not simply switch to a dark basemap after you have styled your map. The color ramps that work best for light basemaps are not the same as color ramps that work best for dark basemaps. When using a light basemap, the darker, brighter colors usually depict the higher values (especially when using traditional high-to-low ramps for percentages or rates). The darker colors stand out against the light basemap. Conversely, when using a dark basemap, we want the brightest (or lightest) colors to be the highest values, and the darkest colors to be the lowest ones. This creates a contrast between the basemap and the data. Take a look at this example: a web map showing the count and percent of mobile/manufactured homes. The darkest gray is actually the lowest percentage. They fade into the basemap in order to de-emphasize those census tracts. The tracts with the brightest green are the tracts with the highest percentages. Similarly, another web map showing adults in correctional facilities uses a dark gray to pink basemap. A dark basemap here is appropriate given the heavy nature of the topic. When zoomed in to tracts and block groups, percentages are not as relevant, so all this map shows is the count at those scales. The size of the symbol depicts the count of the population, and the bloom layer effect creates a bright glow against the dark basemap. Take advantage of tagged color ramps Both of these examples use color ramps that have been tagged “best for dark basemaps.” Use this color ramp tagging to help subset the color ramps to focus on the ones that are best for your map. These color ramps have been specifically designed to work with Esri’s dark basemaps in that they have a darker color for lower values and a bright color for higher values. You are still encouraged to experiment with all color ramps for your specific map. You can easily reverse any color ramp you like by clicking “Flip ramp colors.” Let Smart Mapping help you If you’re on a dark basemap already, the Smart Mapping capabilities within Map Viewer knows. The first suggestions you will see are color ramps that are best for dark basemaps. Color with the Above and Below theme For example, if you have either the dark gray canvas or the dark human geography basemap in your map, and choose the Above and Below theme, you will see the diverging color ramps with dark gray in the center as the first suggestions. These Above and Below color ramps with dark gray in the center help to de-emphasize the features near a middle value, such as a nation-wide percentage or a goal. Use the handles on the breakpoints to adjust and see the map change in real time. Visualization is often the very first step in analysis. The resulting map might look something like this one, featured in this Air Conditioning web experience created by Ashley Du on the ArcGIS StoryMaps editorial team. The bright yellow counties tell one story, the bright blue ones tell the opposite story, and the dark gray counties tell yet a third story. The semi-transparent outlines allow the color patterns to really reveal themselves, which helps create this eye-catching map. Relationship Just as ArcGIS Online has Above and Below color ramps designed for dark basemaps, so too does it have Relationship color ramps designed or dark basemaps. Relationship maps compare two different values to show the high-high, low-low, as well as the off-diagonals, allowing four different groupings to be visible on one map. On a light basemap, these relationship color ramps have the “high – high” quadrant in the darkest color. For dark basemaps, the color grid is transposed and brightened. When used effectively, these ramps really help the “high – high” quadrant stand out from the rest. For example, this map below shows the counties with both high population and high air conditioning access in a vibrant, bright green. Again, the added transparency in the outlines make the bright areas brighter. The thick default outlines would interfere with the color patterns at work. Dot Density Another drawing style that works well with dark basemaps is Dot Density. Dot Density maps takes advantage of the size and shape of the polygon to show the count or amount of something (such as population) in relation to the size of the feature. It’s particularly great at showing the counts of different groups of population (or housing, etc.) in one map. The mix of different categories comes through nicely against the neutral dark gray canvas. One example is the dot density race and ethnicity map from Lisa Berry. We can see racial and ethnic patterns, as well as overall population density, in the same map. In Summary, do more than change the basemap Use dark basemaps with purpose. If you change the basemap on an existing map, change the symbology as well. If you change the basemap first, Smart Mapping will present great color ramp options to you. One final tip: make sure at least part of the basemap is shown in the default extent when the map opens. A reversed color palette needs a dark background as a cue to the map’s reader what is happening. If the opening is zoomed in so that the basemap is completely covered, people might read the ramp differently from what you intended. So, don’t zoom in too far in the opening default extent. Whether you are creating a map about a serious topic in which you’re trying to evoke a stark tone, or you’re designing maps that will be used in low-light environments, dark basemaps can be your friend when used well. I can’t wait to see the maps you create with dark basemaps!

Grib flow mesh is stretched larger than the input dem
I'm using QGIS 3.44.15 to create a hydrologic flow directions mesh from a DEM, using the instructions from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttLxQBe0HIo There are two steps to the process: * Apply the Fill sinks (Wang & Liu) tool to the source DEM * Apply the Crayfish > Conversions > SAGA Flow to GRIB tool to the output from step 1. Both tools run to completion without throwing an error. However, the grib mesh output is stretched to the north and east by 3.23 times the original DEM's dimension as shown here: When I look at the grib output mesh's layer properties, I notice that it's CRS is unnamed: I've tried overriding the grib's CRS to the project CRS as well as 4326, but the result sends it to somewhere else on planet earth: I've experimented with other DEMs at different locations, and the result is always a 3.23x stretch. So.... What is going on and how to I "shrink" this grib flow mesh to it's correct size?

Sylbol based on an attribute condition in QGIS
Using QGIS, I have a cloud of points representing fires. They have an attribute year associated. I would like to change the color of the layer's symbol depending on the year. Is there a simple way to have it done? Or should I slice my layer in different year-defined layers? Thanks in advance

How to handle large bbox requests created by oblique views in a 3D scene? - Esri Community

Use custom output in a custom data feed
I've written a custom data feed for ArcGIS Server, and that works. Now, a new question has come up, and this is about additional output formats. Toggle dark mode on and off using on and un in OpenLayers
I made this codepen where I am setting a style to a layer on an event listener. How can I programmatically toggle the styling on and off since my attempts to unlisten to the event for that layer have been fruitless? Ideally once I click an outside div the map would use my styling and on clicking that div again revert to original OSM styling. Here is the piece of code that actually enables the dark mode OSM feature. I had to declare the styling function only once in order to pass it to the on and un functions with its unique signature. I understand more about OpenLayers event listeners after Mr. Mike provided help and explanation. darkModeOSMHandler ( flag ) { if (this.darkOSM === null && flag === false) { this.darkOSMCallback = (evt) => { evt.context.globalCompositeOperation = 'color'; evt.context.fillStyle = 'rgba(0,0,0,' + 1.0 + ')'; evt.context.fillRect(0, 0, evt.context.canvas.width, evt.context.canvas.height); evt.context.globalCompositeOperation = 'overlay'; evt.context.fillStyle = 'rgb(' + [200,200,200].toString() + ')'; evt.context.fillRect(0, 0, evt.context.canvas.width, evt.context.canvas.height); evt.context.globalCompositeOperation = 'difference'; evt.context.fillStyle = 'rgba(255,255,255,' + 0.999 + ')'; evt.context.fillRect(0, 0, evt.context.canvas.width, evt.context.canvas.height); evt.context.globalCompositeOperation = 'source-over'; } this.map.getLayers().getArray()[0].on('postrender', this.darkOSMCallback ); this.map.updateSize() } if ( flag === false) { this.map.getLayers().getArray()[0].on('postrender', this.darkOSMCallback ); this.map.updateSize() } if ( flag === true) { this.map.getLayers().getArray()[0].un('postrender', this.darkOSMCallback ); this.map.updateSize() } this.darkOSM = flag }

Confused about how to perform a vertical grid shift
I'm struggling with how to perform a vertical grid shift. I've been searching through previous postings, and I still don't understand what needs to be done. For example, I would like to reproject a DTM that's in EPSG:26911 (I assume the heights are ellipsoidal; I don't have any additional information) to using EPSG:6340+5703 GEOID18. I'm attempting to do this using GDAL with the following: gdal raster reproject -s "+proj=utm +zone=11 +datum=NAD83 +units=m +no_defs" -d "+proj=utm +zone=11 +ellps=GRS80 +towgs84=0,0,0,0,0,0,0 +units=m +no_defs +geoidgrids=g2018u0.gtx" --resolution 1.0,1.0 --dst-nodata -9999 -r bilinear --to ALLOW_BALLPARK=NO --to ONLY_BEST=YES --of COG --co COMPRESS=ZSTD --co LEVEL=16 --co PREDICTOR=3 --co BIGTIFF=YES -i .asc -o .tif When I compare the elevation values before and after, there is about a 25-30 m change in value, which doesn't seem right (I'm working with data from southern Nevada). Can I stay in UTM (or any projected CRS) while doing this, or do I need convert to longitude/latitude, do the vertical grid shift, and then reproject back to a projected CRS? I've also been trying to do something similar with LiDAR data using PDAL, and I'm not sure I've been doing that correctly. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but I have no idea what. Edit: Sorry, I think I got a little confused on the relationships between ellipsoidal, geoidal, and orthometric heights. In southern NV, the geoid heights are roughly -25 to -30 m (below the ellipsoid). Therefore (if I'm understanding correctly), if the heights I'm dealing with are ellipsoidal, then applying a geoid adjustment would result in orthometric heights 25 to 30 m higher than the ellipsoidal heights (ellipsoidal - geoidal = orthometric). In that case, it would make sense for the resultant elevation values to increase roughly 25 to 30 m. I'm still wondering if I need to include a vertical datum in the source CRS if the heights are ellipsoidal, or does the software figure that out? I think this same question would also apply to vertical grid shifts in PDAL.

Are positional arguments considered operands in gdal CLI modernization?
The gdal syntax page seems to divide arguments into named arguments and positional arguments (which can also be named). If GDAL CLI commands inherit from Unix command line interface, then would positional arguments be considered operands (input.tif and output.tif below)? Or in the case of being specified as named arguments, then be considered options (followed by option-arguments)? This is a follow-up question from With gdal CLI commands is everything that is not a command name, considered an argument? and my (attempted) interpretation of https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/364383/confusion-about-changing-meaning-of-arguments-and-options-is-there-an-official using the following command as an example: gdal raster convert --creation-option COMPRESS=LZW --creation-option TILED=YES --overwrite input.tif output.tif * command: A token that specifies an action or a group of related actions. (3 total here) gdal, raster, convert (with gdal as utility/root command, raster as first level command/subcommand, and convert as subcommand) * argument: Any single string passed after the command. (7 total here) --creation-option, COMPRESS=LZW , --creation-option, TILED=YES, --overwrite, input.tif, output.tif Arguments can be bucketed into options, option-arguments, operands. * option: Optional argument to a command that is generally used to specify changes in the utility’s default behavior. Starts with one or two dashes. Some options take an option-argument, and others are Boolean and do not. Sometimes referred to as flag or switch (but usually reserved specifically for Boolean options). (3 total here) --creation-option, --creation-option , --overwrite * option-argument: An argument for an option (follows certain options). In some cases, an option-argument is included within the same argument-string as the option. In most cases it is the next argument. For repeatable options (option-arguments of list types), values can be packed (--co KEY1=VALUE1,KEY2=VALUE2) or as in this example, passed one by one (--co KEY1=VALUE1 --co KEY2=VALUE2). (2 total here) COMPRESS=LZW, TILED=YES * operand: An argument to a command that is generally used as an object supplying information to a utility necessary to complete its processing. Operands generally follow the last options and option-arguments. Commonly referred to as non-option argument or argument. Referred to as positional argument in gdal? (2 total here) input.tif, output.tif

Creating QgsGeometry from Extended-WKT or Extended-WKB
Creating a QgsGeometry using a WKT/WKB string is a fairly standard procedure using pyqgis: wkt = 'MULTIPOLYGON (((0 0, 1 1, 1 0, 0 0)))' wkb = '0106000000010000000103000000010000000400000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000f03f000000000000f03f000000000000f03f000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000' geometry_wkt = QgsGeometry.fromWkt(wkt) print(geometry_wkt) # geometry_wkb = QgsGeometry() geometry_wkb.fromWkb(bytes.fromhex(wkb)) print(geometry_wkb) # But now I have data in the extended WKT/WKB format which also embeds a spatial reference identifier. I could't find a way to create a QgsGeometry from such a string. If I just use the same as above I always get as result. ewkt = 'SRID=4326;POLYGON((0 0,1 0,1,0 1,0 0))' ewkb = '0103000020E6100000010000000500000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000F03F0000000000000000000000000000F03F000000000000F03F0000000000000000000000000000F03F00000000000000000000000000000000' geometry_ewkt = QgsGeometry.fromWkt(ewkt) print(geometry_ewkt) # geometry_ewkb = QgsGeometry() geometry_ewkb.fromWkb(bytes.fromhex(ewkb)) print(geometry_ewkb) # Is there any way to create those geometries using pyqgis API? If not, I probably could extract the relevant wkt/wkb parts from the extended representation. I guess for EWKT it would be just dropping everything until the ;. But what do I do to convert EWKB string to WKB string?
