K. Markdown with YAML frontmatter is the "final solution" -- hmm that sounds distasteful but you know what I mean. For Obsidian it was inability to send a .md or .pdf straight to my printer. Also, I'm cool with per-fee sync service to support their business model but I'll do that myself, thank you.

curious how many fellow nerds love the Obsidian experience then hated its limitations and vibe-coded their own version? I think "personal knowledge management" or "digital gardening" is like an endless quest. I used to think we could design the one definitive system to rule them all.

Okay sorry I’m old, I’m slow to catch on. ATProto *really* gives me the opportunity to hit reset on my own social / trust graph and control it going forward. Damn.

ATProto Vancouver September 2026 Meetup
JP @byjp.me is coming to town, which is a great excuse to have a meetup! Our theme is going to be #selfhosting and #homelabs, but any projects you want to show off or discuss are welcome. We're trying [lichen wiki for our notes and speaker list](https://lichen.wiki/@vancouver.atprotocol.community/atproto-vancouver/september-2026-meetup) -- we'll add permission to attendees and/or ping us and we'll make you a contributor. We’ll meet at @z-space.ca, and people are welcome to join across the street at The Magnet for a bite to eat. #atproto

The only way to get employed as an AI engineer consultant/lead is to be unemployed long enough first, so you can catch up, keep up, prototype, evaluate and integrate 9-5. And then also tie it back to your previous tech life. Barely anyone can claim more than 12 months live experience.

Any other #VWFC fans finding Boro highlights in YouTube feeds? So great to see Seba keep getting better over course of last two seasons, then World Cup and now hitting ground running in the Championship. Espanyol earlier in the week, then a great header assist for Carabao Cup win against Wrexham.

Lol, I was having a video call with a fellow engineering nerd friend, DDIA came up and he pulled v2 off his bookshelf. I couldn't believe it. Thicker than the Bible!

Kind of the anti-thesis of let's sit down and read these docs, I know. The temptation is too real and it also generates really useful NotebookLM slidedecks and infographs, sigh. Hit me up if you want to see any. Otherwise I applaud people who RTFM.

Looking forward to it. TBH I used AI to create a knowledgebase file of DDIA v1. I also crawled all of docs.atproto.com, happyview docs and that great new BlackSky ATProto tutorial and turned those into a singular ATProto kb markdown file for agent consumption. I use it now to seed ATProto projects.

You’re probably aware already but he just published 2nd edition and its a GAZILLION pages thick. “Reading data-intensive technical nomes” should be its own thing, lol. I was a bit disappointed he didnt give a 2nd edition update for his @localfirstconf.com plenary. Post your findings!

Let's work on that. Use this pic as a solarpunk plot prompt where anarchotechnologists meet back 20 years into the future after the earth is at peace, its resources are distributed fairly and every sentient being has full freedom and agency.

100% - Digital Archivists have been working on this (future/vendor-proof data packaging). We have standards. I designed this spec 2 decades ago: archivematica.org/en/docs/arch... In wide use by memory institutions worldwide. As per @justinsimpson.bsky.social software is cheap now, data is the relay.

See habitat.network for answers. What I heard: agency/ownership for organizations over data created in heterogeneous application stacks, including platform and auth config portability, with organization-based focus on data stewardship/control (eg. Organization Data Stores inspired by ATProto PDS).
