Prepping to discuss An Infamous Army at the @bodleian.ox.ac.uk on Sunday during their Georgette Heyer event This involves much taping together of my disintegrating 1961 Pan with the ghastly cover You can read some of my thoughts on it here: www.jstor.org/stable/j.ctv...

A copy of Georgette Heyer's An Infamous Army with a lurid early 1969s cover. Heroine Bab Childe, with her bright orange hair and 60s make-up, is wearing an implausible lilac and lime green outfit while vaguely Napoleonic-era officers and troops parade in the background

As elections near & competition with Vannacci's openly fascist party intensifies, Meloni lets her own fascist instincts loose. Proposal to take children away from parents if the latter refuse to learn Italian is blocked by President Mattarella. Meanwhile, guess who defunded Italian language courses.

thoughtful and enjoyable thread on #kidlit here. Never gave my child Walliams because they looked a) crap and b) mean-spirited. I *have* given her problematic but high quality stuff, with the proviso that we discuss it all together. If it has no literary merit, then why bother?
