Apparently Jucy Book Raves are a thing in Japan now, where a bunch of people get together to read while a DJ plays ambient music.

Phone Photography Tip: if you can, a pano is better than a wide-angle shot It obviously won't work for action shots or the like, but if you have a relatively static scene, shooting in pano mode will yield a less-distorted image than shooting wide angle
For reference, a 1x magnification shot of the sceneWide angle (0.5x magnification) captures everything, but severely distorts the edges of the photoPanorama stitch also captures the full scene, but with almost no distortion. There may be a minor stitch issue or two (like the edge of the blinds) but it's otherwise pretty solid.

I have too much camping gear. I think it's time for an audit.
An absolute unit of a gear pile of all my camping equipment. It's legitimately out of hand.

More of this. Democrats literally don't need to say anything. They just need to remind people what Republicans say about them.

Every time I read about extreme sports folks and death-defying stunters and the like, I remember this Emily Carroll quote
An excerpt from Emily Carroll's "Through the Woods." A little girl is tucked in her bed, having evaded the wolf and made it safely through the woods. The text reads:

"Oh but you must travel through those woods again & again..." said a shadow at the window. "... and you must be lucky to avoid the wolf every time..."

"But the wolf ... the wolf only needs enough luck to find you once."

l've been a SA advocate for decades:
NEVER go to campus resources for a SA. Call a rape care hotline/program (off campus), get a SA advocate (they're free), go to a SART hospital for care (and evidence collection if you choose).
They activate the police. Schools have NO business in this process and will minimize and bury it. It's a criminal matter, not an administrative matter.
Period. No exceptions.

The people who aggressively ask if you think Israel has a right to exist are the same people who tacitly believe Palestine doesn't.

This question—the idea of a third space is so alien to kids today they can't even imagine them—makes me so sad.

Latest analog kick: printing and albuming 350 photos Because when I'm 75, I'm not gonna be loading up Lightroom or a 35-year-old website to reminisce on past adventures.
cheap album + cheap laser burner = slightly less-cheap-looking photo albumI love that the 4x6 photo pockets perfectly fit the road journals that I had previously just been keeping in a stack on a shelfI've made custom press-printed photo books of some of my adventures. And while they look all fancy and pretty, they're also just so ... antiseptic. Flipping through an actual photo album just feels more personal.Plus, they look great on the shelf. I'm gonna need to order a bunch more albums just to have on hand for future adventures.

Final route configured. Time to stop futzing with Alltrails before I completely alter it yet again. Almost forty miles and a lot of steep climbs. My knees are gonna hate me but my camera's gonna have the time of its life.
Planned Desolation Wilderness route. 38.5 miles, a couple of mountains, and a helluvalotta lakes.

Welp, we had a good run, Wordle. But as I'm heading off to the internet-less wilds for five days, our streak will finally be coming to an end. If anything, I'm embarrassed that it's been over two years since the last time I was off the grid long enough to lose my streak.
My 814-day Wordle streak, about to be lost when I go camping this week.

Of all of the genres of Redditors out there, I think none annoys me more than the people who scream "STAGED AND FAKE!" anytime someone posts a heartwarming human interaction because, of course, no one can believe genuine connections can exist anymore. It's an offshoot of cringephobia and I hate it.

The whole Tilly Norwood brouhaha had me thinking about S1m0ne, the 2002 Pacino flick about a virtual actress. Kinda wild that Rachel Roberts came onto the scene out of nowhere, played the titular role in a Hollywood flick, and then did nothing but minor TV spots before vanishing again.

Ordered 350 photo prints to go into seven 50-page albums. Apparently Printique—née Adorama Photos—doesn't retain the print order of your job and just dumps them into a box willy-nilly, leaving you to (re)sort it out. Gonna be a fun night ahead!
