Hi Swifties of Mastodon, I have a question. I've been wanting to look into Swift for a while, but while I understand it's technically no longer Apple only, literally every tutorial or teaching material I've ever found starts with "install Xcode." Do you know of *any* introductory material suitable for people who are more inclined towards the penguin OS? And do you have any experience to share on whether it's *actually*, not just technically, a cross platform language?

i think we need to stop expecting people to drop everything and switch tech stacks/options constantly. individual choice won't stop the fash and LLM influence in software. like, it's getting to the point that people are listing literally every option for a problem domain as tainted and then demanding you use the one that isn't but it's maintained by one person and it's an unfinished hobby project. i'm not saying throw up your hands and don't care about LLMs and their effect on software and open source, I'm saying stop treating it like a vote with your dollar fantasy where if we all stop using the bad software it'll magically stop being used or become good. collective action is not just a group of people independently not using a thing. all this is to say, attacking random people online for using <technology> is not activism. It sucks that we're in this position but you can't honestly expect people to drop every language and switch to guile scheme for everything (as much as I love guile)
