Yesterday, I was made a full Professor. I went for a walk under the cherry trees in the rain to celebrate. I didn't say anything yesterday as I thought people might (understandably) assume it was an April Fool's joke.🎓

A year since the publication of my first Novel, The Bad Boys in The Attic today! To celebrate, Hungry Wolf Press will be promoting the book and having special discounts until the end of the year! The book looks the same but I have lost some of my hair! #novel #publishing #author #writing

If #Cthulhu were to massage your brain it would not be done with tentacles, but with psalms of wet geometry, whispered through lattices of non-Euclidean cartilage—each syllable a surgical caress unravelling the cortex like overripe fruit beneath an alien sun. That's what I think anyway, just imo.

Just fact-checking this - it is a fairly accurate paraphrase, though not direct quote, here is what Einstein actually said: From an essay titled "Why Socialism?" in Monthly Review. (1949) (monthlyreview.org/2009/05/01/w...)

Been watching too much news. I was trying to remember whose theory was the Zone of Proximal Development and all I could come up with was Zelensky. (it was of course Vygotsky).

I just taught a great lesson on English language and cultural capital. One student said it was the best lesson they had so far this year! I get back to my office happy, until I notice my flies were down the whole time!

Maybe we will! www.hungrywolf.net/fiction/bard... To mark the 409th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, and to celebrate his birthday, we are releasing a new series; BARD409. Two new novels. One immortal voice. Releasing on April 23rd. More details to come.
A glitchy image of Shakespeare to promote a new series blending old and new.

Needed to find Sir Ken Branagh on socials, tell him how he inspired my reading in my upcoming #Shakespeare #Audiobook. Couldn't find him on X because they are ALL fake accounts. What's the world coming to when you can't even make genuine contact with an extremely famous person you've never even met?

Got my first "Violating an Executive Order" and "I'll make sure you lose federal funding" parent threat today for teaching "DEI" books in our upcoming "Liberty and Justice" themed unit. Even in "Blue" Massachusetts we're dealing with this. Anyway, don't obey in advance, and don't obey later.
Book covers for: Hollow Fires by Samira Ahmed, The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo, The Many Half-Lived Lives of Sam Sylvester by Maya MacGregor, Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson, Monster by Walter Dean Myers, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

Rickrolled my class of 100 students because this weeks' lesson is about Trolls. I have been waiting all semester for this moment. And, hey I am not trying to be cool here, I know rickrolling is like watching an episode of Friends. But it's classic gentle comedy! We delve into more serious stuff too

Thanks to all the new followers! Much nicer over here at bluesky. However, I've not got much to say, other than the fact that meditating on the busy Tokyo commute is a good way to ensure people give you some space. Eyes closed, deep breaths. Maybe they thought I was about to explode.

Setting up a micropublisher is really hard, actually. Especially when teaching a lot more than others in my department, being editor of an academic journal, having an additional part time job and having to work all weekend doing interviews. Thank fuck for red wine and ice-cream

In light of the mass exodus from Twitter to BlueSky, I am sharing this quote on here. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind - Gandhi. There is no evidence Gandhi actually ever said this, of course. Misinformation is why we left Twitter. However, the sentiment is true... you cannot fight fire
This quote is from Gandhi says and eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind, but we are not sure Gandhi really said this either.
