Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I fucking love Telepath, so I should really give this one a spin. My go to over the past few months has been this one. I've seen this come together over the past couple of months and seeing the finished thing is a marvel as always! For the Nekojiru-so heads in my audience, this is the closest to that high you can get! 123
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026It is done! Had a great time and saw a lot of fantastic movies this year! Can't wait for the next festivals to roll around! Highlights: Dry Leaf Prayer for the Dying Hope Arrested Memory The Samurai and the Prisoner Rose of Nevada Bouchra 010
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Bouchra Finished off with a future classic. With Almodovar's latest in fresh memory, it was great to see someone actually succeed this well at recursive autofiction. Touching, timely and worth every second. Put this on your radar and while you're at it, open your heart to Kaze: Spirit Warrior too! 020
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026I will say though, the nightmare sequences with the dead husband are absolute fucking peak. 100
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026God Will Not Help This felt a little dire after Dawning. Aimlessness is the name of the game here too, but the landscapes are nicer and it constantly has the feeling it could've become something interesting but ultimately didn't. Slow cinema that refuses to luxuriate. Kind of a shame! 100
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026which is just kinda hollow without the affect to go along with it. It doesn't come off as experimental, it comes off as inept. Some nice cinematography and sound design though, so clears Bayside Shakedown N.E.W without even trying. 100
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026And sure, it feels bleak at first, but Dawning works so hard to kill any sense of momentum by constantly flashing back and refusing to contrast the present themes through it's violence. Written out, that sounds purposeful, but ultimately the point as I can see it is a nihilistic "shit happens" 100
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Dawning also seems to have gotten a lot of praise for it's "intelligent, slow-paced approach" which I simply can't see. There's a long open that's an okay-ish family drama with a lot of aimless bickering that gets cut down by a non-committal interjection of a random violence-structure. 100
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Dawning Second dud of the fest, I'm afraid. The festival press-release described this as "a horror movie, if it was made by Bergman", which is funny by itself, but even as a not-that knowledgeable Bergman-head, I call bullshit. 100
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026(For clarity's sake, this goes more for Dry Leaf than Rose of Nevada. I'd imagine that the Sony Ericsson's sensors aren't as well-explored and malleable as 16mm, but you know, the materiality of the film is still very present in RoN too) 100
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Kind of insane to have seen this and Dry Leaf so close to each other on big screens. Both use the lofi-quality of their medium for a powerful effect and always carrying the @dagscott.bsky.social fog of log-vid at the back of my mind, it's great to see such a complexity rise out near-aleatorically. 120
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Rose of Nevada Gotta love that gritty 16mm filmography! Such a beautifully visceral color palette in this one with the tones of rust and oxidation taking center-stage. Perfect double feature with Leviathan, whose DV-roughness harmonizes beautifully with the 16mm here. Great sound design too! 100
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Obvious answer, but DaVinchi Resolve! It's free and not that different from say Premier or FinalCut. There's also a bunch of helpful tutorials online and apparently a good VST-scene but haven't dabbled in that yet 120
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Bayside Shakedown N.E.W My fault for walking into a legaxy sequel without even knowing there was a series to begin with but even without the third of it that was just jerking itself off, the case and how they went about it was fully absurd. Grossly pro-AI and survaillance to boot, which is fitting. 110

Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Especially appreciate how the who-dunnit and aristocracy politics are expressed through the two major players in the background and how deeply humanized the main character gets to be. Still thinking about that scene where he regrets giving away a nice tea urn. What a great moment! 111
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Kurosawa mines a lot of dynamism from the conflict between the distaste for violence and it's apparent necessity for power. Framing the main character as more of a detective than a warlord shifts his position to be someone who's interested in the root causes of violence - tradition, grudges, duty. 110
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 24/09/2026The Samurai and The Prisoner Big man Kiyoshi at it again! Probably the centerpiece movie of the fest and for a good reason. The structure is so addictive, I hoped they would've spun it out for a whole series but that's my Detective Conan-addled brain speaking against what's good. 110
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 24/09/2026You could critique Arrested Memory for being a little bit flippant about it's wide cast of characters, a lot of them come and go with a stump of an arc but I didn't mind. They got so much heart, humor and taste from their dynamic in what brief time they spent, which is super admirable! 110
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Arrested Memory Great time at the cinemas! Always appreciate an action movie that works through momentum more than intricate plotting. The main characters dissociative amnesia reminded me of Freesia, which is something I didn't expect! 120
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I see fanfiction still counts as critique in some circles. 110
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 22/09/2026These aren't necessarily critiques mind you. Could be that with a bit of time, I can see that it was obviously doing X or Y but walking out of the theater, it feels like the vision didn't come together in a cohesive way. That could be a stroke of genius, but who knows. LB certainly isn't helping. 110
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 22/09/2026but does Camp view the coven as a continuation of Emily's problems? It seems to shrug off so much (kinda sorta rape, pressuring people to do heavy drugs, disregarding kids who need you) but frames it as a source of power? Emily does question it but to what end? I don't know. Mystifying movie. 110
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Camp Not really sure what to make of this. Feels more complicated in tone than most people who liked it seem to give it credit for, but I'm don't really get what it's going for either. It's real in a way, I've also imprinted on people I maybe shouldn't have when coming out of a crisis > 110
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Funny story: Got targeted by cinema assassins right afterwards. Immediately as the clapping stopped, two people behind me started complaining about the "terrible CGI" and how it was just "two hours of loud guns and screaming" in a tone that sounded like they thought the rest of the audience agreed. 130
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Hope Pretty much The Duel of scifi/horror! Absolutely loved the experience, found myself literally at the edge of the seat multiple times! Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Ben'Imana To be fair, it did manage to convey how painful and multifaceted the reconciliation after a genocide is, which is the most important part of the film but as a story, it's a bit wishy washy and slight. The ideas are there but sadly, the script doesn't cash in on them 110

Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Feels like a refined take of those 00's CGI films made my comic book artists in part, which was such a breath of fresh air. The camera too here moves in such sinister, weighted ways, much like the doom it's capturing. Great, great film! 120
Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 20/09/2026A Prayer for the Dying A true sign of the apocalypse is that you can't stay nor can you leave. Unfeatured Films @unfeaturedfilms.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Dry Leaf Anything that reminds me of Sokurov this much is an automatic big winner but I wish it had even less plot.
