Magic already did their own magic school set before Hasbro got the license to do HP toys. The lead designer has claimed they aren't planning to do one but I'm doubtful.

At the beginning of chapters it mainly does the social media stats, but yeah there definitely is a bunch of them talking about assigning stat points throughout.

I've read the entire series, that goes to show just how forgettable it is. That just months after finishing it, it has left no lasting impression. It's not the worst thing I've ever read but it's by no means good.

Yeah, it shows their stats from chapter to chapter, and there is constantly junk like, "I gained three levels and put all my points into strength". It is definitely a skippable series.

Which to wrap this up and tie it back to WotC/Hasbro, Chris Cocks is a huge fan of AI and is already trying to force into D&D and no doubt wants to force into Magic. And I'm afraid that as soon as profits start to do they'll do.

Which is something we've seen with Fortnite, as soon as their profits started to slow they laid people off and are starting to use AI, which if I hadn't already quit over them doing business with the TERF wizard IP would've caused me to quit.

We'll see how next year goes when they go from 7 sets to 6, but printings fewer cars is going to make for lower profits than this year. They're a company and they should be able to make money but what they're doing isn't sustainable, and a soon as the growth starts to dip we all lose.

We're up to seven sets this year. As much as I love this game is hard to stay excited when it's always spoiler season now. It feels like the game is headed in an unsustainable direction and that feels bad, even worse because ther isn't really a good solution.

First off, I'll repeat that I don't like the reserve list. But, like I said, it's about short-term gains vs. long-term health. Wotc/Hasbro is flooding the market with product with 6-7 sets a year. Yeah, that's gonna make short term profits, but it's burning people out.

Is for the most part not the barrier to entry that it used to be. Even more so since EDH/commander had taken over as the dominant format. I think there are plenty of cards that should come off the list, but a lot of the stuff on the list really worth anything aren't healthy for the game.

Back to Magic, while I don't like the Reserve List it's the exact opposite of the issue at hand. It's a holdout from pre-Hasbro WotC and is designed to favor the long-term growth over short-term gains. I think the game would be better if it were more accessible for more people but the reserve list

Fortnite is/was one of the most profitable things on the face of the earth but all that growth only lasts for so long until the workers pay the price for it, in terms of crunch and eventual layoffs. It's fun to shoot people as Hatsune Miku or whatever until they start partnering up with transphobes

Of course it's idealistic, we should be idealistic. It's not good for a company to exploit an IP as much as they can, especially when the majority of the people working on the game/product aren't seeing shit from that growth. I would not point at Fortnite and call it a success case.

And suddenly there are anywhere between 2-5 versions of each rare and mythic in the set. Fans ate it up, because shiny things are cool, which only emboldened WotC/Hasbro. That leads to serialized cards and now collector boosters if you can find them have gone from 20 to 40 to good luck finding them.

WotC is more to blame than anyone else combined. They've been fostering that crowd since what, Zendikar, when they introduced Expedition lands and inserted Vintage cards in first-run Zen packs? It didn't really become a problem until collector boosters came out in Throne of Eldraine.
