For heavensward it was very obvious who I'd choose. Ysayle is one of my favourite characters in FFXIV and I did her a little dirty for choosing her most painful moment to draw. But I also still can't forget what she went through in that moment 😭 #xivwomenweek

"A kimono is a piece of formal garb often worn by those in Hingashi, it is akin to a layered robe, dyed and embroidered into anything from simple colours, or an exquisite patterns."

"The first layer is the hadajuban. It is a simple garment worn directly on the skin - a layer between the person wearing it, and the more elaborate things that will follow."

"The next layer is the nagajuban. In the final fitting only small amounts of its fabric will peak through, but it itself can be designed with elaborate colours and patterns, even if the observer will only ever catch glimpses of them."

"Then finally we have the kimono itself, secured with a decorative sash known as an obi. This layer is designed to be shown to the outside world, it is made with the most expensive fabric and designed with the most alluring patterns. It makes up most of what anyone will ever see of the entire garment."

"The first kimono that the wayward daughter ever received was given to her at a young age by her family. It was drab and unassuming, and promised a life that would match it. The hadajuban scratched and itched. The nagajuban was plain and had no illusions about what parts of it mattered. The kimono was one of cheap fabric and dull colours. Though it bunched awkwardly and fell listlessly around her - the wayward daughter knew that the true worth of the garment was the figure of the damned person beneath it."

"The next kimono the wayward daughter received was a gift. This one was more elaborate than anything she had ever known, but it filled her with dread to wear. The hadajuban was insubstantial - soft and light, but so very very thin. The nagajuban was beautiful - elaborately so, designed to be seen and taken in by whoever saw it, and designed to be seen and taken off by whoever deigned it. The Kimono was restricting. Too long and too small all at once, and impossible for her to move in when she first put it on. But she would learn, and she would master its embrace."

"The kimono that the wayward daughter wore when she died was one she had built herself. It was the most beautiful one she had ever seen. The kimono was dyed in harsh blacks and reds, accented in gold and deep lace. It cost her everything to build but it was hers, wrapped as armour between her and the outside world. She moved unrestrained in it, with slits cut exactly where she wanted them to be."

"The nagajuban was designed beautifully top to bottom, but tucked neatly away from the outside world. A beauty and intricacy known only to her, that only she would ever see."

"She had been given a hadajuban that was soft and light. It wrapped around her and kept her warm in the cold, and cool in the heat. When she wore it she felt untouched - unassailable."

"When she wore it, she felt like she could die in that moment and be at peace."

"The hadajuban she chose to wear the moment she died was far from the soft snow that cooled her aching wounds - far from gossamer fabric that clung to her movements: the hadajuban she wore that day was old and coarse. It scratched her skin and drove her to madness, but she chose it over any she had been offered since."

Nivienne is funny because she had a single whirlwind romance that crashed and burned so hard that she swore of relationships forever, then years later she tentatively started dating a woman who turned around and asked Nivienne to kill her for her sins (they worked it out).

"This King was unlike the many you may have heard of, or likely that you will ever hear of again. Their primary concern was not those of politics and statecraft, but rather of things such as whimsy and delight - most commonly their own."

"The demeanor of this King may seem strange to you, but it matched the demeanor of their kingdom perfectly. None of their denizens were simple mortals, but instead a range of strange and colourful fae that would be a nightmare for anyone else to bring to heel."

"But after a hard day of directing the fancies of the fanciful, the King did have one delight that they kept all to themselves. They had their wonderful little sapling."

"Their sapling was not another fae - no, instead they were a strange and colourful mortal, always getting into impossible situations and improbable problems. I have to think this is what made them so joyous to the King - what could be more interesting than a mere mortal who could get into just as much trouble as a fae, and then have to wiggle out of it without any of their fantastical abilities?"

"The only problem the King had now was that their lovely little sapling was traitorously disloyal."

"When they needed help, they rarely called upon the King right away - instead insisting on stumbling through the problem until sufficiently stumped, and then making the all powerful King come to them and remind them that their aid was available!"

"As much as they complained, the King would still help of course - it was for the good of their favourite sapling after all, but they would in exchange just as a few minor favours of their sapling. Favours such as calling on the King with all of the sweetest words they knew, or doing something sufficiently amusing and novel that the King could forget all about their sapling's trifling missteps."

"Any so the cycle repeats - with the King watching over their kingdom, and their little sapling making sure to keep their life interesting."

"Now when I think of that sapling's many misdeeds, I think of how they might make things up to their benevolent King, and I hope that this will do well enough."

Nivienne can't help but smile reflexively when she hears the sharp tapping of taloned feet on the metal pathways of Solution 9. Sure enough when she rounds the corner she is treated to the sight of two old friends stationed at a metal table in the main plaza, enjoying the offerings of a new continent.

"What brings Eorzea's most intrepid explorers to this side of the salt?" She asks.

Alpha chirps happily at the sight of her, and Omega's scanners seem to flare up at her in something akin to a greeting. "We arrived to further investigate rumours of other worlds." it answers. "We have stayed because there are new and intriguing developments in numerous fields."

Alpha seems to have acquired a bag of takeaway she recognizes from the city's newest taco stand, and she is suddenly very curious to see how he will go about eating it, as apparently her own technique 'needed work' and was 'a crime against good food'. Surely she must be able to at least beat someone without opposable thumbs?

Before she can get too invested in this distraction however, Omega chimes in with its own line of questioning.

"I have an inquiry." It chimes flatly.

Nivienne supposes her taco question will need to wait for another time."I will do my best to answer."

"I have intercepted a number of your broadcasts." Omega's head tilts to one side. "What is their purpose?"

She hadn't considered that the similarities between the broadcasts by the Loporrits and the kinds that Omega would be keeping its eyes out for. She supposes they must be similar enough that it could easily catch them by mistake. "You've been listening to my show?" Or, a better question: "Have you been enjoying it?"

"Negative." Omega answers with no hesitation. "It is confusing. While a number of your "stories" contain morals or lessons intended for the audience to learn from, others lack a coherent structure or theme. The overall experience is unorganized and lacking in purpose."

Nivienne laughs lightly at the casual criticism, but it isn't unfounded. "Well sometimes the purpose of a story isn't to have a moral or lesson - sometimes it just needs to exist."

Omega whirs unhappily at the suggestion. "Explain."

Nivienne considers the best way to approach the topic with her results-oriented companion. "The purpose of the story is for the story to exist. Even if there is nothing to learn from the events of the story, there is something to be gained from the knowledge that someone existed, even if you have never met them personally, or even if they may not be real."

Nivienne picks up the quiet sound of something in Omega whirring as it seems to think deeply on the subject. "So the purpose of the broadcast is to exist and to be heard by others, who will now know it exists. In knowing of its existence, the listener will be assured that the story exists."

"Exactly."

"I will update my definitions." Nivienne notices that it does not update its review, but she decides not to take that personally.

"I am happy to be of service." Nivienne smiles. "Is there anything else the two of you needed a hand with?"

"Yes. Alpha has indicated that he would like to experience one of the personal transportation machines known as a "monowheel S1" but we have been unable to meet the height requirements. We would secure your aid in commandeering one for testing."

Nivienne shakes her head gravely. "I regret to inform you that I do not have the correct license for such an activity, but I can introduce you to someone who does." she offers.

"Acceptable. We shall leave now." Omega concludes.

Alpha chirps unhappily.

"We shall leave once Alpha has finished his meal from Aunt Tii's establishment." Omega swiftly corrects.
