Great stuff, and I haven't heard of any of these people. This performance was only a few months after Miles released In a Silent Way, and the influence is unmistakable. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G5y...

And intuition meaning common sense (of laymen, not scientists).

By "faster" I mean shorter, in terms of wavelength. I assume you know what I meant.
110
Paul Rubenstein @ubertar.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I do understand that. The faster the wavelength (i.e. the higher the frequency) the higher the energy density. The speed is constant, so more overall energy. Apparently it's the quality not the quantity that counts. Quality in this case meaning frequency range. Heat. This comports with intuition.

Ok, so they are talking about visible light only, not infrared, so not heat, which (I think most) ordinary people would not expect to cause evaporation. So, not surprising that it didn't.

The first replacement didn't work properly (speed was variable) but I did more research and got the right one. Also fixed the intermittent connections between the jack and circuit board. Works perfectly now, and the sound quality is excellent!

Just got another one. It happens often. One disturbing pattern I've noticed is, these accounts all have 88 posts. Doesn't seem to be a coincidence.

I was lucky enough to get this for $1 from the local record store's bargain bin, not long ago. It's a good one!

Thanks for the repost! That was the cover art for Neem's vinyl single, released circa 1995. The records were pressed, but there wasn't enough money to print the covers.

Ok, but when the light is described as "brighter" than sunlight, that's not the part of the spectrum they're talking about, I would assume.

Anyone else getting randomly reposted by accounts with 0 followers, 0 following with pinned posts begging for money? It doesn't happen to me daily, but it's far too often.

Is that surprising? Doesn't heat, not light, cause evaporation?

Paul Rubenstein @ubertar.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Or maybe it just needs a friendlier context, like other kinds of rock that are also hot dog flavors... chili-cheese rock, mustard rock, relish rock, ketchup rock, Chicago style. Maybe other kinds of sausage too. There are already songs that people call "bangers".

I think it's the words.

Paul Rubenstein @ubertar.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Ok. Yeah, that's shitty. I would expect that for certain jobs, like receptionist, where you represent the company to customers/clients.
000
Paul Rubenstein @ubertar.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Maybe I do.
000
Paul Rubenstein @ubertar.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Maybe. It's hard to really know what people are actually thinking, vs. what we think (or fear) they're thinking. Even if that's what they think at first, time will show them they're wrong. I think eventually makeup will be a thing for special occasions, not an everyday work thing.
100
Paul Rubenstein @ubertar.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Maybe that's because they're used to seeing you in makeup? After a while, they should adjust. "Nothing's wrong; I just decided I don't want to wear makeup anymore".
100
Paul Rubenstein @ubertar.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
Do they have to, or just think they have to? My wife doesn't wear makeup, and she works in an office. The only time I remember her wearing makeup was at our wedding. I understand it may be different depending on the job, but would there be consequences if they just stopped?

Never heard of Susie Dent. I meant I've never heard anyone say, "I'll have to have a think about that". "Another thing coming", yeah I've heard that many times. Even if you say it as "think" it will sound like thing anyway, unless you deliberately pronounce the k and hard c separately.

“I could care less” always bugged me, too. My wife said that, early on, and I asked her about it, and she said it's meant sarcastically, which makes sense.

Espresso is made from coffee beans. The same beans regular coffee is made from. The difference is the process. You're eating coffee beans.

Ok, makes sense. I haven't worked with AC much (other than sub-one-volt signals, or 120v from the outlet). I would have gone DC with a 555 timer circuit.

Paul Rubenstein @ubertar.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
To all the pedants complaining about "thing"... what's "a think"? Think is a verb, not a noun. At least here in the US. I don't know what foolishness you people get into over there.
200
Paul Rubenstein @ubertar.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
I see. You wrote 12V, so I assumed AC was a typo. 12V AC seems odd.

Whether it's worth it depends on if it's significantly cheaper and easier to get the solenoids on their own, if you're interested in getting a variety of sounds, and if you have the time to explore. You could even have an array of solenoids, with different length plates to play a scale.
