Canada and Denmark share a land border on an island west of Greenland. This isn't even unique: The border between Sweden and Finland crosses a tiny island. It's crooked to ensure that the lighthouse stays on Finnish territory.

I don't get what people like about Frank Sinatra. His voice sounds flat and lifeless to me. I like a bit of vibrato and emotion when I listen to crooners (my guilty secret). Borrowed a set called 'Kings of Jazz Vocals' from the library. Sinatra seems far removed from what I'd call jazz.

When I was 12 or so, I designed a nuclear engine: It would work like a gigantic diesel engine, but the propulsion of the cylinder would come from regularly exploded nuclear bombs.

Nuclear bomb propulsion. So 60s. According to this guy it would have actually worked. www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqZ9...

Sean Connery has an eerie talent for picking turkeys. The Avengers (1998) is ghastly. You'd think Uma Thurman would make a fine Emma Peel, but 20 minutes in and I'm already tired of that smile. She's just not Diana Rigg.

Wow! Two rogue web pages just ate 8 gigabytes of RAM each. No wonder Firefox got sluggish. Half of it was in swap pages. My machine has 24 gigs of RAM... Should have killed just those two instead of shutting the browser, so I'd know which they were.

In science fiction written in the 1940, computers run on vacuum tubes and data is stored on tapes. These days, I've stumbled on SF where spacefaring people in the far future have data pads. Come on, even 1980s cyberpunk had direct brain interfaces.

It's a very contested accolade, but The Wild World of Batwoman AKA She Was a Hippy Vampire is the silliest superhero movie of all time. Great fun. IMDB users seem to disagree: They gave it 1.8/10 points... www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CdU...

Back in the 00's if you shipped to Russia then literally everything would be stolen by Russian Customs no matter what it was. If you sent something tracked then it would arrive, but the package would contain something else like a paperback or whatever other junk they had lying around.

Sure, post punk can be many things, but a band that plays long, microtonal guitar solos is prog - even though they dress funny. 70s prog monsters dressed funny, too: Shiny clothes, capes, feather boas...

Childhood memory of our family driving 2,000 km from Germany to our summer cottage in Finland. That feeling when you step out of the car and absolute silence hits you. It's strange. I've lived in Helsinki and Turku my adult life. It's always windy here on the coast, so there's never such silence.

Noise fans have it so much easier.. other kinds of music, someone says your favorite artist is terrible you immediately gotta like go full apoplectic rage, poor little vessels in your brain popping all over.. Noise, someone says wow that's horrible, ya just smile and say Hell Yeah, buddy! Hell Yeah.

Why are all the current 'post-punk' bands I've heard just imitating Joy Division? The post-punk I remember had a dozen different styles. There were funk and dub influences, electronics, Dada lyrics, noise etc. I guess industrial doesn't count as it was born before punk in a separate strand.

African American music is about constant innovation. Every year brings something new. If a Black musician doesn't keep step, they'll find their audience getting whiter, as white people prefer traditions. Buddy Guy's audience is all white and even his keyboard player is white... He's still brilliant.
