There's a striking difference in how academics who work with this sort of research see this issue versus lay opinion. NIH research is critical. Still, it does NOT make drugs, and the gap between where that research ends and a marketable drug begins is vast. 011

Tyler Pearson @tylerpearson.bsky.social · 13/06/2026One of the saddest things (among many sad things) about higher ed these days is the full throated endorsement university leaders have given to students' offloading their critical thinking skills. And that's to say nothing of all the other externalities behind AI. 020

Tyler Pearson @tylerpearson.bsky.social · 26/12/2025Got into woodworking this year, so naturally cranked out a few projects to give as gifts over the holidays. Pictures are a watch box and a cheese board/slicer. Really happy to be able to give handmade gifts 150
Tyler Pearson @tylerpearson.bsky.social · 20/06/2025Even after just a few months working in a group dedicated to scale up and process transfer, this absolutely tracks. If your reaction is at all heterogeneous, it's likely there is a strong mixing component at play that will affect the chemistry across different batch sizes if not controlled. 141

Tyler Pearson @tylerpearson.bsky.social · 04/05/2024The chimney swifts have arrived in force here in #Chicago! No good photos yet but they've maybe even supplanted the sparrows as the most-heard calls in the neighborhood #birds 010
Tyler Pearson @tylerpearson.bsky.social · 02/05/2024A productive afternoon yesterday at Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary! Lots of people out sharing sightings with each other which was so nice! Some photo highlights for me were this *dramatic* downy woodpecker, a very cooperative common yellowthroat, and a lovely black and white warbler. #birds 070
Tyler Pearson @tylerpearson.bsky.social · 01/05/2024took a swing past Jackson Park and had some fun sightings - a Caspian tern swooping over the lagoon, a grey-blue gnatcatcher, an orange-crowned warbler (I think!), and a northern flicker, among others #birds 061
Tyler Pearson @tylerpearson.bsky.social · 30/04/2024Visited Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary today and was not disappointed - got some beautiful shots of a yellow warbler, a black capped chickadee, a female downy woodpecker, and a common yellowthroat, and a less beautiful shot of a peregrine falcon (!!) in flight! 150
Tyler Pearson @tylerpearson.bsky.social · 28/04/2024Took my camera out for a spin at the beach. These were two of my favorite captures. I saw sparrows (song, house, and field sparrows), mourning doves, robins, red winged blackbirds, gulls, , ducks, cormorants, and, of course, pigeons on this particular outing. 040

Tyler Pearson @tylerpearson.bsky.social · 28/09/2023Today it's my pleasure to present my magnum opus from my time in the Levin group: a site-selective benzene-to-pyridine "transmutation" Now, you can replace carbon atoms in benzene rings with a nitrogen with intuitive and predictable site selectivity! Read it here: www.science.org/doi/full/10....science.orgAromatic nitrogen scanning by ipso-selective nitrene internalizationThe proper oxidant enables conversion of aryl azides to pyridines with the nitrogen atom selectively replacing the azide-bound carbon. 171
