Dissolution by Nicholas Binge: It's a big sci-fi concept about memory and time-travel, that is also a small tender story of two people. I don't know how anyone can balance those things so well as this does.

THE Ghost In Shell is more faithful to the art of the manga, but the vibe is off for near-future Cyberpunk. The story is a half-reboot, that doesn't want to dwell on existing story, but leaves gaps for newcomers. I loved Stand Alone Complex and this just doesn't quite scratch that itch...

when wikipedia launched, the idea that an encyclopedia could be reliably maintained by the public was a joke. now, it's a marvel, a remarkable resource, virtually the only website that remotely delivers on its potential and practically the last pleasant browsing experience on the internet.

I wish streaming could settle for moderate successes, instead of chasing huge hits. They seem wedded to a 'spend big to make big' philosophy. Why would anyone watch a new series with this track record of cancelling? Why would anyone watch a series that you've already cancelled?

Wrestling! This is The New Level, a new AEW tag-team that combines Swerve Strickland and the former New Day. What are the New Day doing in AEW? Well...there's not a lot of job security in wrestling and WWE decided midcontract to offer an over 50% paycut. Then WWE released them after they refused...

Songs Of The Dead by Brandon Sanderson and Peter Drullian: I'm going through B.S.'s back-catalogue, so expect a lot more of his name. This time he's partnered with someone who knows more about music to craft another bespoke magic system. It's the first in an urban fantasy series, but promising.

Devil House by John Darnielle: Your first impression is a title and cover that invoke pulp 70/80s horror. You are wrong. You are surprised by the rare use of 2nd person. You are more surprised by it being a pair of fictional true crime stories. You are even more surprised about it being this good

I think they panicked that the Reapers were too big and faceless and the Illusive Man was too passive, so got a 13 year old to quickly design a lower level guy. They should've really set-up other Cereberus personnel in ME2 to switch to minor antagonists...

Livesuit by James S.A.Corey. It's almost impossible for people enlisting in wars to truly know what they're signing-up to experience. This is a standalone short story set in their new trilogy universe. I only managed to guess a fragment of where this was going.

I don't know much about being trans, but I did watch a lot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. My main takeaway from I Saw The TV Glow is the death of Tara (whose actor cameos) really got to her. The 'pink opaque' is a very differebt animal to my recollections of a show that probably hasn't aged well.

There's still a residual grudge over Diego Maradona's 'hand of God' incident, but that pre-dates me, so it's nice that they gave England fans something by dragging-up old geopolitical disputes...

English men's football fans are a weird bunch. They are utterly convinced they're going to win, right up until they don't. Then they are the gloomiest fatalists you'll ever see. This was the best result in 60 years, they got to beat France and reignite a rivalry with Argentina and yet...miserable!

None of the major parties are standing, so now it's just him and Count Binface standing. British politics are weird!
Yes, Count Binface is a real candidate. The character has had a surprisingly storied career as a protest/joke candidate.

He was a mp for two years and is under two investigations for not declaring donations. This might have resulted in a suspension, a recall, then a byelection. In response, the attention-seeker decided to resign and then stand again in a byelection.

*Ok, I do want to talk about it. This is Nigel Farage, a man who ran and failed to be a mp 8 times. He is now the leader of the opposition, the right-wing Reform party (previously Brexit and before that UKIP, though technically that was a completely different party with most of the same people)

I know it's probably the heatwave keeping me up, but it might be the ad with Steve Carell running around an american car park asking "does anyone have Walkers?"...then someone produces a packet clearly labelled Walkers. It's fairly common knowledge that that's not their name there, right..?

I was most into them when I was technically too young. Rockstar sink a lot of money and work-hours into them, but they've never been good at storylines and characters. TLDR: meh
