PW has a little sidebar this week about book bans focusing on nonfiction. And they dropped this little interesting fact: "Of both fiction and nonfiction titles that were removed, 44% were by or about people of color, and 39% were by or about LGBTQ+ individuals— both up from the previous year"

I was having the loveliest chat with a fellow at terminal 1 today who was waiting for his love. Beside himself with excitement. “How long have you been together?” “Well, since 1989, but we couldn’t marry because we wanted kids and we’re first cousins.” Top 10 record scratch moment, gang.

Using the word bro reminded me that my brilliant, stentorian-voiced, gravitas-bestowed man friend accidentally called me “bro” last time we went to a show. My kid calls me bro now. Or, chillingly, “bruh.” So I guess that’s my name, now. Bro the Librarian.

I've been mulling another half-marathon, in my waning 40s. This story’s decided it for me. I’m not doing months of intervals and 10k+ runs in all weather so some bro-propelled (bropelled?!) bag of wires that can’t even feel the burn can eerily trot past me. www.theguardian.com/sport/2026/a...

And, for anyone who wonders how you can make a good average missing class? Curricula are publicly available. Libraries exist. Study groups are a thing. Working teens can piece it together if they’re determined. I did. And I think we do want determined folks to be able to be mobile, yes?

Even kids that live at home often have to work so families can make ends meet these days. I don’t know why they’re so determined to make university impossible for kids who don’t have funds. But I suspect it has a lot to do w/ making the boys club look like a meritocracy without them getting smarter.

It’d be neat to see a shift in reporting away from treating Trump and his gang of drag administration impersonators like the main characters. They get off on being the main characters. Report instead on all the moves the adults in the room are taking to keep things on the rails. It’d be more useful.

I mean, so much of our politics centre around how we treat others, what we owe them, and how we conceive of and extend care. Those are pretty central things for a relationship. If we’re a long, long way apart on those, I don’t think there’s potential for a relationship there, no.
