Daily reminder that the underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.

Another ridiculously talented person has drawn Arlie, one of the OCs for a project I'm working on, and it's GORGEOUS 😭 Oh man, I'm suddenly even less convinced that I should be drawing her myself given my zero artistic talent 😬 Well, go follow this genius, anyway!

Done. I only resorted to writing "boo hoo hoo won't somebody think of the poor venture capitalists who have to ask people for their permission before mugging them and spitting on the concept of human artistic endeavour - that's you that is" once.

Easy win for my beloved Link's Awakening. Nothing has ever matched that goofy-melancholy vibe since, not even Majora's Mask. The massive helping of nostalgia from it being my first Zelda game also probably helps.

It changes every year or two, but right now it's SMB3 for that gloriously brisk 45-seconds-is-plenty level design.

Yay, thank you so much! The hair always looks so glossy and soft in your art so I'm sure it'll look beautiful as ever ❤️ (Please don't apologize, I'm the one being lazy and relying on the translator 🥺 日本語の勉強も頑張ります!)

Even if I wasn't following you because I love your artwork, I'd still be following you for 'Kamori's Real Talk'. Though... it's true that it would be nice if there wasn't quite so much going on in the world that needed Real Talk.

After nine years we finally get Sword Hector, but the concept freaks the Summoner out so much that they have to put "Basically Long-Haired Hector with an Axe" in the same banner to soothe their nerves.

000

Dan Hill @twelfthhill.bsky.social · 03/12/2024

Highlighting rotation on axes on the UI and a straight blue line doodled on the screen? Smells like Kuru Kuru Kururin to me 🤔

Dan Hill @twelfthhill.bsky.social · 02/12/2024

That's what makes immature work appealing: the humanity isn't obscured by technique and skill so it's easier to feel connected. But it's possible for any work, with practice. Ah, I got carried away. Sorry for the self-indulgent rambling! 🤐

000

Dan Hill @twelfthhill.bsky.social · 02/12/2024

Troublesome for sure, but in learning to avoid AI people may learn to cherish the humanity behind art. That's what saved me: I can't stop analysing, but now I focus it on the person not the work. A rushed early act might bug me, but wondering what made them so impatient to move on makes me smile.

Dan Hill @twelfthhill.bsky.social · 02/12/2024

I hear you, after getting my Literature degree I found it really hard to read books for enjoyment. A friend of mine went on a detox of just reading trashy romance novels for a year to try to shake it off 😅

000

Dan Hill @twelfthhill.bsky.social · 02/12/2024

Maybe it would be easier if they had built the game using a graphics engine that they literally made inh- hang on a tick, why does this idea sound so familiar? 🤔

Dan Hill @twelfthhill.bsky.social · 30/11/2024

Just to clarify: I don't care, it's still dope as hell, but Christmas Quiz season is coming up and all...

Dan Hill @twelfthhill.bsky.social · 30/11/2024

So yes, this attract sequence single-handedly kick-started my love of what is now my favourite genre, but who's in the mood for a bit of pedantic trivia? Yaaay! Ryu is doing the Hadouken wrong in this sequence - his leading left hand should be on top. What he's doing in the attract is a Kamehameha.

A sprite of Ryu from Street Fighter II throwing his classic Hadouken fireball. Notably he brings his hands together with the leading left hand above the trailing right.

Meanwhile, we're out here feeling our sadness dissipate on seeing pieces like this. Seems unfair to be on the winning side of an emotional zero-sum game when you're the one putting the effort in. I hope reminding you that your art is FUCKING GORGEOUS redresses the balance, even if only a little.

150

Dan Hill @twelfthhill.bsky.social · 29/11/2024

Your art is gorgeous and always makes me smile when it shows up on my feed, but I've got to comment on this one because I am obsessed with THOSE SOCKS 😍 The heavy material and busy pattern with the simple ribbon over the top... I love them so much 🥲

Dan Hill @twelfthhill.bsky.social · 28/11/2024

I find if a video is even slightly out of my usual wheelhouse I have to immediately delete it from my Watch History or risk waking up the next morning to a feed modelled on the reprogramming video from the end of A Clockwork Orange. That can't be good for engagement...

Kishimoto Nega's greatest creation.

Boruto, from the anime of the same name, who is basically just Naruto but from the future and with a racing stripe.

Still very funny to me that, with all the benefit of 200 years of technological advancement, Eggman Nega's greatest creation was just Metal Sonic with a go-fast stripe painted on it.

i have had this talk with multiple friends over the years but the most aggravating thing I've witnessed in creatives is watching them struggle between trying to become popular and trying to be their authentic self... while occupying an incredibly niche category This is usually a "pick 2" situation.

Bloody heck but that's mildly coloured! Don't push yourself, Danny. Stick to a level of mild-colouredness that you can handle, don't try to show off.

Yomiko Readman?! Wow, it's been so looooong! I love how you've split out the strands of her hair. Oh man, I used to make scrapbook collages on the front of all my college notebooks and Miss Readman had a big close-up on my English Lit one.

See, this one was actually fairly popular in the UK at the time. You can still find boxsets of it in charity shops. It got aired on Sky One when cable/satellite TV were just about becoming the standard but everyone still somehow only watched the one channel.
