@threeravenspod.bsky.social Hallo! I'm way behind, but on Series 7, episode 8 Martin mentions Vortinger, or Merlin's tower, and how it doesn't seem to be featured in stories. You may be pleased to know that it does, on Bernard Cornwell's Arthurian series, first volume, The Winter King.

@scottjohnson.zip listening to Intelligent Machines at TWIT, Jeff Jervis mentioned a "caffeinated jerky"... Could it be the source of the "carbonated beef" myth?? www.forbes.com/sites/brians... I mean, quite different things but caffeinated and carbonated do not sound that "far off"

Só funny right? And that narrative is pervasive even there, internally. If you are from the south/southeast, people from the northeast are simultaneously lazy and somehow stealing "your jobs", despite working like camels

A 100 per cent. I like the conversation in general, but watching Leo get strongly defensive about GenAI is making it hard to do so. It's an interesting technology, but it feels like he's taking any non-praising opinion of its or its main players as an attack on himself :/

Here is an easy solution: Food stains are humiliating, as they suggest you're a little baby who can't feed themselves. Oil stains, such as those you'd get from working on your car, suggest you're tough, independent, and skilled. Thus, simply cover your food stains with used motor oil.
A white garment with some kind of food stain. Humiliating. A pair of dirty hands rest on a car engine. Rough, tough, cool.

Do “left” and “right” even mean anything any more, or is it time for a different political spectrum for our fragmenting politics? www.crikey.com.au/2026/03/24/l...

Is left and right useful anymore or do we need a need a new political alignment?
With One Nation fracturing the right and embracing elements of left-wing policies, are 'left' and 'right' even useful anymore or do we need a different spectrum?

I understand governing is hard, and it's way easier to be in opposition (see PHON)... But still, it feels like it was all a ruse

It's better to have more voices i guess. I just don't get why Labor seems to be so craven. I understand things are hard, but as silly as this may sound, they seemed to be as much beholden to react to the BS Sussan Ley was pulling as if the liberals were actually in decent shape.

Well, the moderate right wing indeed is shattered, the alt right unfortunately is not, although it's a bit messy atm. It remains to be seen, but thankfully I guess, the US saber rattling tends to cause the bad right to go poorly.

Sometimes it's indeed very hard... I remember a situation here in Sydney where me and my mates went to a Portuguese butcher, he said something how he liked how Brazilians and Portuguese people could understand each other, "unlike the Spanish", and went on talking... We hardly understood him :|
