Oh, definitely not. There's many other things I'm missing to get a better picture here. Like actual insight into how communities that aren't gaming respond to these highly derivative things. And examples of where the gaming side might be more tolerating.

I never really got the impression that tolerance for greatly derivative work varied that much by medium. But since I'm not 100% sure to which examples you're exactly referring it's a tad hard to form a full picture.

Oh hey, just noticed that Fantasy Maiden Wars is the cheapest its been yet. An excellent, absolutely GIGANTIC Touhou strategy-RPG in the style of the Super Robot Wars series. But with no knowledge of Touhou (it starts at the same place as the recent remaster game) or SRW required. It's just good.

Making a normal game with some things to make it more speedrun friendly is my approach. Since it's a monster collection game I'm making it fairly easy to manip RNG for a good(IV like) encounter. (Though my artist insisted I do not make shinyness easy to manip, so that's separate and harder)

I prefer to flip it around. AI can only hallucinate and sometimes it accidentally produces something that has some use to it. I have seen more comparisons to slot machines and gambling addictions lately referring to using AI, and I think there's a good amount of truth there.
