i'd take it even a step further than you do: it's not that social media produces fascists, but that it produces antisocial behaviour broadly, where even good acts of protest can quickly devolve online into just another method for expressing antisocial impulses in a way that feels "safe" to do

I was loudly complaining about one of these movies once, and my friend’s mom had to very patiently explain to me that these are not really meant to be watched. They’re background noise for making out on a date if you were a teenager at the time.
