Powerful and important piece from Michael Matos and Five Borough Veterans. As I covered on my show last week, Mayor Mamdani messed up. Let’s see if he makes it right.

Our servicemember on the ground in Iran is still unaccounted for—more than 24 hours after being shot down. Trump and Hegseth are notably and unusually quiet. And Congress is on vacation.

Truly appreciate NYC Veterans Commissioner Yesenia Mata taking time to talk with the Five Borough Veterans team that I'm proud to advise. Commissioner Mata brings vital community organizing experience + powerful leadership experience as an Army officer. Looking forward to great collaboration ahead.

Official announcement that American troops have lost their lives in this new war on Iran. Troops from New York & across the US & US territories remain in harm's way in vessels & bases in the Persian Gulf & region. As we've learned since 2001, no war is easy, quick, or without tragic consequences.

My new op-ed up on MS NOW (formerly MSNBC). This tragedy should never have happened. What's also true: our Afghan allies should not be put back in harm's way or kept in harm's way because Congress fails to fix our broken immigration system. www.ms.now/opinion/nati...

Glad to offer my perspective as a former National Guard soldier and Afghanistan war veteran on CNN tonight following this horrible shooting in DC. My heart is with these troops in critical condition & their families.

Servicemembers are caught in the middle of the political rhetoric of this moment. Not the first time and unfortunately won't be the last. Congress and the President must do their jobs so servicemembers have what they need to do theirs.

If we want better choices, we need better primaries. We need open primaries. Everywhere. Fight for them. Because this is the great manifestation of the problem. And if you don’t have open primaries, it may be coming to your state, city or town soon.🚨🇺🇸

Two horrific attacks by USMC veterans have folks asking what is going on for veterans who aren't accessing the mental healthcare they need. I appreciate MSNBC reaching out to me for commentary. Veterans--and Americans broadly--need connection and help. www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

Opinion | Veterans suspected in mass shootings highlight need for mental health access

One of America’s key promises is that veterans will be cared for when they return home. But a shortage of psychology providers at VA medical facilities says otherwise.

From EARTHSEED: THE BOOKS OF THE LIVING
Choose your leaders with wisdom and forethought.
To be led by a coward is to be controlled
by all that the coward fears.
To be led by a fool is to be led
by the opportunists who control the fool.
To be led by a thief is to offer up your most precious treasures to be stolen.
To be led by a liar is to ask to be told lies.
To be led by a tyrant is to sell yourself and those you love into slavery.

Sam Nordquist should still be alive today. This horrific, heartbreaking killing comes at a time of heightened nationwide attacks against trans people led by a federal administration hellbent on erasing trans existence. Black trans lives matter. Trans people will not be erased. bit.ly/41i55th

When one soldier continually misgendered her, an NCO "reminded the soldier of a core Army value: 'You treat everyone with dignity and respect. ... He figured it out after that.'” Fun fact: it really is that easy. Just reat everyone with dignity and respect.
