The most triggering thing you can do to a birder is call something a "sea gull" and that's exactly what Utah's legislature did when they chose their state bird

I thought there once was a moose on display at the ROM that the signage claimed was the largest moose (at that time). As I recall it came from north of Superior but that the taxidermist had swapped antlers from Alaska because they were larger.

I've never met a small moose! The closer you get the huger they seem. I believe you are correct, the moose (gigas) in Alaska and adjacent Yukon are the largest.

Quite a few of them up here but they have no need to visit feeders with lots of natural food. Of course not that many feeders in operation as bears still active.

I'm not done with moose yet! One of the up and coming local bull moose. He stays clear of the big guys but is still engaged in the rut as he and a lovely cow were steaming up the forest when I last saw him. Anchorage #Alaska 🦊🫎

I just passed a nice bull as I was walking back from my local bakery. He just casually passed by. Lots of moose here (except at my preferred photo spot for some unknown reason)

Perhaps my favorite area moose but he's been playing hard to get this fall, either hiding or way up a mountain. Finally I endured an epic hike through the alders to catch up with him (then he led me back to where I started and he knew a better route). Chugach State Park #Alaska 🦊🫎

In total, 11 Cook Inlet beluga whales have been reported dead this year. Generally, eight to 15 are found deceased each year.

3 dead belugas seen days apart in Cook Inlet. It’s common, researchers say.
Two of the belugas have been towed to shore for further investigation, but one has yet to come ashore. NOAA Fisheries is asking for anyone that sees the whale to call their 24-hour hotline.

Several of the Moose in one of the parks I frequent are blind in one eye. Presumably battle scars from taking on a bull with very long brow tines. They seem none the worse for it, I guess they get enough info from sound and smell. Anchorage #Alaska 🦊
