Thror's Map (left), drawn by Tolkien in 1936, and the sketch (right), featured in "J.R.R. Tolkien: Artist and Illustrator" by Hammond & Scull. The moon runes were cut and pasted to the map since Tolkien wanted them to shine through from the reverse when held up, like in the story. #TolkienTrewsday
