The Silent Boys - Soul Of The Sea The Silent Boys is an indie-pop band from Richmond, Virginia, playing and recording music for the past three decades. The Silent Boys bandleader, Wallace Dietz, formed the group in the mid-80s, inspired by the post-punk guitar pop that once ruled the college radio airwaves. The Silent Boys were frequent players at many of the rock n’ roll nightclubs in downtown Richmond, until 1991 when Wallace “pulled the plug.” Recordings from this era made their way on to various indie pop compilations in the late 90s and with the renewed interest, Wallace reformed the group in 1999.

heka (aka Francesca Brierley) is an experimental artist, songwriter and producer whose intimate songwriting merges elements of folk, ambient and lo-fi electronics into hybrid compositions. With a background in visual art and creative computing, her practice is shaped by collage, layering acoustic and electronic textures to create music that moves between the personal and the abstract, the organic and the digital. Raised in the Italian countryside before moving to London, heka’s songwriting is rooted in the relationship between language, memory and belonging. Moving between English and Italian, she explores the ways voice carries personal history, place and emotion.

Golden Samphire Band Taking their name from a coastal flower, Golden Samphire Band is a new project from brothers Mik and Rich Hanscomb and fellow Sussex seaside dweller, Hannah Lewis. Having worked together on tracks for the brother’s previous album as Junkboy (2023’s Littoral States), the three resolved to move forward as one with a set of songs that expand on those earlier ideas—maritime suburbia in all its mythical and marvellous mundanity. This time, however, they approach it through a cycle of home-recorded, informed psych-folk-pop-pocket-symphonies. Their debut album, Dream Is The Driver…

Fran Carlyon Fran Carlyon has been writing acoustic based songs in the folk tradition for a number of years now. He records them in threadbare fashion in as few takes as possible, incorporating synths and electronics to add light and shade. In his view, capturing the initial spark of inspiration is key, as it conveys the message and meaning in the purest possible way. After a batch of digital singles, his debut mini album, Home Truths, was released 6th February via the wonderful Manchester/Brighton based label YYZ Records. Beyond his songs, Fran is a kind of musical soul brother to us, sharing our values and taste in true independent music and being very active in the underground independent scene: he writes for…

The High Span (©Wolf Howard) The High Span is a UK post-pop band based in Medway, Kent. Formed by songwriter Kevin Younger in late 2019, the band's sound is possibly best described as a pop-inflected mix of sprightly guitar jangle and suburban angst. Releasing their first EP, Quirky Miniboss Squad, in 2020 on the Spinout Nuggets label, they tapped into a vein of English bloodiness and absurdity which was followed up in their first, self titled, album in 2023. The band comprises Kevin Younger (guitar, vocal, keys), Mark Aitken (bass), Canadian expat Jimmy Moore (drums), and Sarah Post (vocals).

There’s something fundamentally wrong about year-end lists. Not because music isn’t worth celebrating, but because trying to pin down twelve months of listening into a tidy hierarchy of numbers is, at best, an exercise in personal mythology and, at worst, a meaningless ritual we repeat out of habit. Albums don’t exist to be ranked, art doesn’t ask to be quantified, and the emotional weight of a record rarely has anything to do with its position on a list. And yet, despite all of this (or maybe because of it) I keep coming back to them.

Sunny Intervals Sunny Intervals combines indiepop, folk and light electronica, as put together in London by Andy, formerly of the band Pocketbooks. Active from 2012 to 2016, when he released three delicious albums, Rooftops (2012), Step Into Spring (2014) and Sunrise (2016), Sunny Intervals returned, after almost ten years, with Swept Away. It is "a late night whisper," written over the course of a decade, and recorded as lightly and naturally as possible at home, mostly in Andy's kitchen at night while the neighbourhood was sleeping, with acoustic guitars, light percussion, keyboards and soft synthesisers.

Theory Of Ghosts Theory Of Ghosts take their name from a song by the self-proclaimed Anglo-French “ghost-rock” group, Piano Magic who, between 1996 and 2016, crafted a cinematic, melancholic and richly emotional sound, at once fragile and immersive. Led by ex-Piano Magic founder, Glen Johnson and long-time guitarist, Franck Alba, Theory Of Ghosts make no less evocative music, weaving a very romantic, European sophisti-pop that echoes the dreamier moments of The Blue Nile and The Durutti Column. Originally a three-piece on their debut extended players, succinctly labelled EP1 and EP2…

The Lovely Sparrows - Multiple Lives (video still) The Lovely Sparrows are an American indie rock band formed in Austin, Texas in 2005 by singer-songwriter Shawn Jones. Initially releasing a self-issued 7″ single Take Your Hats Off You Godless Bastards, they quickly established themselves on the local scene with a rotating lineup of collaborators. In 2006, the band issued their debut EP, Pulling Up Floors, Pouring on (New) Paint, via Abandoned Love Records, and, their first full-length album, Bury the Cynics, arrived in 2008. In 2011, they issued a new EP, …

Hirta (©Ash Drummond) Hirta is the solo project of Scottish - American multi instrumentalist Alistair Paxton, well known for his guitar work with Shilpa Ray and for touring and working in recording studios with multiple other artists. His debut album is called Soft Peaks. Soft Peaks finds solace in the natural world and comforts through an intriguing map of familiar trailheads and newly chartered terrain. It casts a windswept and lonely spell, yet retains an air of optimism across its ten warm and desolate tracks. This album was self produced and recorded in 2025 in sessions split between the Hudson Valley town of Nyack, NY and rural Bovina in the Western Catskill mountains culminating in both vinyl and digital releases under Paxton’s own imprint, Half Painted Door.
