Very happy to have issued the first 7" by the wonderful @shopfiresmusic.bsky.social this weekend via YYZ Records. It's a wonderful single & amazing that it's not just a Bandcamp thing but actually in a few shops! Mat & I have no idea how to do this label thing but it's fun finding out!

I remain fascinated by the way the most positive aspects of dole culture ran through British pop into the mid-90s. “And I’m in ’cos I don’t want to work / in no place in the whole universe.” When did that total separation between work & music collapse? Still hasn’t for Tim, I suspect.

This is OUT NOW: the magnificent new double A-side vinyl debut of @shopfiresmusic.bsky.social. You can hear the deeply lovely first song now, and buy it obviously! The gauzy, light-dappled sound of these songs, coupled with their emotional currency, move me so much. Proud to be involved!

Saint Etienne last night were just utterly glorious; as ever the most delightful ardent romantic cultural magpie mash-up. Late night London street scenes, forlorn indiepop, ecstatic breakbeats, an avalanche of melodies & hit after hit after hit. Pete, Bob and Sarah 💚

Very sad, just dusting off these two from 20 years hence. Think I can safely say they were worth the £20 spent (ooh, and the first came with DVD and 24 page booklet)

Rest in peace, Sway. Here is "This Is My Demo" (2006) and "One for the Journey" (2007), both on CD, Dcypha Productions. Latter subtitled "THIS IS NOT MY SECOND ALBUM", just to be sure.

I don’t really know much about this book, but (a) always got time to investigate a New Directions paperback and (b) wot a description on the back!!

Front cover of Joe Ashby Porter’s novel Eelgrass (1977), a worn cream New Directions paperback with bold black 1970s-style typography. The title sits above a surreal line drawing of four nude figures standing among tall, dark reeds or eelgrass, with small leafy plants around them.

Back cover of Joe Ashby Porter’s Eelgrass, a worn cream New Directions paperback. Large black title and author text sit above a lengthy synopsis describing a dreamy island commune, drugs, eccentric residents and a mysterious creature, followed by a quotation from Porter about the novel as a nostalgic “vision of innocence.”
