After everything was done I revamped the enclosure interior, getting the drift wood off the floor and to the wall. Replanted those vines into a coco fiber background with several pockets for planting. At least five separate plants emerged after I disentangled the roots ball.
The coco fiber planter tile is on the left wall with some green vines in the pockets and one hoya cutting. The back wall is fully covered with cork bark, a big piece of dark brown driftwood is secured to it and two air plants are set on the wood surface. They have spiky, and also the big one sports quite curly leaves. Above the chunk of wood is a hygrometer and a thermometer. The right wall got artificial foliage for the scenario, when anyone emerges from any oothecae.

Personified innocence. After Matylda drank from the pipette and my fingertip and ate a tiny portion of banana on my hand, she stood tall on top of the plant, cleaning her cheek. #mantis #invertebrates
A red heating light colours a scene with mantis on a little thick leaf, cleaning her cheek after she had some energy boost and also drank a lake of water from a tiny pipette. She is almost facing the camera, looking at the viewer. She is standing with her front spiky paw next to her cheek

I am prepared to give Matylda a drink and banana eventually, but she will rather climb my hat. She is frail, but laid third! ooth this morning. #mantis #invertebrates
A cushion under the red heating light with a tiny square dish with a banana bit, bottle cap with clean water and tiny pipette with sweet water. A short wooden ladder goes from the cushion up to the first flower. Everything is placed on the table by the kitchen window. Matylda's silhouette against the ceiling light that is behind her. The first light is broken. Second and third lights are on. Matylda sits on top of my cap, we can see her from the side, she is facing to the right with her head slightly tilted towards the tablet's camera, where she can see herself, while I try to position the tablet to take the picture.A terrarium ceiling with a protective plastic sheet over the metal net. Under it sits a makeshift basket sort of, made of strong chicken mesh with big square holes, that is covered with a green plastic layer. The first ooth is in the very corner between the ceiling and a side of the terrarium. The second is on the plastic sheet behind the mesh. She created another one on the curtain when she free ranged herself from her appointed flower forest on the table once.

A magpie and a group of sparrows from the day earlier. They keep to their sides. The solitary suet ball is often placed on the garden pathways instead of this shelf. It was probably raining before.

Nighttime Garden Snailshells resort. #snail #invertebrates
Small garden snail with light brown and a hazelnut brown shell. The animal sits on a twig, munching on something. His body is shades of gray. He faces the right. Sticks and a grass cover most of the image. Very tiny dark-gray snail with almost white shell with brown stripes. The baby snail is on top of the curled up brown leaf. The shell is less than one centimeter wide. A swirl of a striped snail shell in shades of brown, hazelnut colours in the middle and in stripes. Autumnal brownish leaves cover the ground, dried plant stems zig-zag throughout the photo.A baby garden snail under scattered grass.

And after a thorough search I have found the blue tit and some markings on the tree and as I place a lot of twigs on the low branches, they were tossed down in one spot. I do edit the branches a lot lately, piling up more, which looks strange, but makes things complicated for the four legged culprit

I would suggest a differently coloured foliage as I always panic when I can't find her. Since she laid ootheca she is the master of disappearing from the free range plants to the ends unknown. But today in the flower right next to her tree, on the underside. #mantis Matylda
The underside of a yellow blossomed chrysanthemum. There sits Matylda, this time hiding well, not in plain sight. I had to use my flashlight while crawling under the table and then I noticed her shape. A red basking light shines from above onto the sheer curtains. It is already a dark evening.

Matylda's favourite spot is on my cap. She can spend hours up there, being carried around. And a pose for the Press. Sadly, she lost some peripherals.

after some hours of elaborating, I decided to take her home. She prefers side, where the windows are, crawls up to the (freshly installed) branch, that gives her an opportunity to hang upside down just right next to the glass, so the basking lamp shines right at her.
A view of the glass terrarium in the daylight and with the heating lamp on on an opposite side to the camera, just outside the terrarium. A dew concentrated on the glass and obscures the bottom part, setting very moody autumnal lighting. Mantis Matylda is right in that leafy branch.

After deep analysis and following the clues throughout the garden I came to the conclusion that the visitor might be another hedgehog. And what are you up to at four in the morning?
A nighttime photo of an area by the pond. There are rocks in the right part, that mark the pond polygon. One of the middle rocks is moved away. There are also small white pebbles with a circle and a letter H in the middle for the heliport for birds. Scarce little green plants grow all over the entrance.A green kidney bean pod laying between the rocks by the pond has been chewed on. From a photo one cannot tell that the grass has been stepped on when tunneling through the foliage.

Matylda's enclosure was edited, I finally assembled the ceiling lodge for her. But my green friend prefers free range habitat. I understand, but sometimes it is necessary to have her safely in the terrarium. #invertebrates #mantis
Matylda's terrarium's measurements go like this: the base is 45 centimetres wide and deep and the whole habitat reaches 60 centimetres. With a waterproofed base it can be turned into a paludarium for example.

A top-down view with the door open and light coming from the left side. The contents are the same. Coco fiber for bedding, big driftwood set behind the planter to the left, leaning on real bark background, on the right is a small Y shaped cork branch. The terracotta pot in the middle holds a tall coleus plant that reaches the ceiling area with thinner and lighter twigs and branches intertwined with an artificial vine. Here is the mantis looking down from a jade plant with thick leaves. View us from the bottom below the mantis and up to her face. I was able to remove those plastic twines, that have been left in the woodland by the farmers and their hay baler. I had no tools and a bunch is still entwined out there, despite my efforts, that took a lot of time til pitch black dark.

So, I updated the design. The insert wall is turned back to front, I cut and installed holders and a support for a small water bottle, that I need to repurchase. I thought it wouldn't be needed the same as a terrarium, so to the reuse center it all went. And now there is mantis (terrarium) and that:
A rabbit hut made of wood, with a smaller entrance insert by the ramp and with an open roof.Inside by the ceiling on the front wall are the brackets that hold the insert firmly in place. A wooden perch from previous work, and a corner support for a small water bottle. Even a tinier glass bowl sits next to it. Layers in the chamber go like this: some sort of removable and way too thin particle board for the floor, thick cardboard, paper towel, guinea pig bed made of fluffy material, more paper towels, and some scattered food. Exterior of the wooden hut with closed roof and opened entrance. It can be closed by just one quick movement in case another poorly animal decides to seek refuge in a man-made structure. And legs got silicone spacers.

She pressed herself to the nearest corner of the enclosure in wanting to go out. I got a few brilliant ideas. So, I collected branches, pebbles and made a climbing tree, next to the living plants. A lot of climbing happened, including peekaboos, sunbaths, dozing off or watching a hooman to doze off.

This rabbit hut. Only I made a removable wall with a smaller entry, pulled it out via the roof, that also opens easily and then I closed the entry door. If I remove the wooden bit for perch I will be able to operate this device without opening the roof and wall removal.

A few bad photos of my camera display and a picture from this tablet, also blurry. But I have a new visitor to the feeder specifically. Starlings tend to flock on the trees or ground, eating fruits or bugs. This is juvenile starling and at times was accompanied by sparrows, a dove, chickadees.. 🪶💕
A juvenile starling is standing behind the juvenile sparrow. Both are facing the left and starling's bill is covered in suet. As a juvenile he still has a light brown colour on his head like sparrows, but the body is already black with light spots at the feather tips. Blurred greenery in the background.A tablet picture shows juvenile starling standing on a shelf I secured to the balcony railing, facing the camera but with his head turned to the right. A makeshift perch slightly below and to the left accommodates a tiny terracotta planter with a suet ball in it. It looks like an ice cream in a biscuit cone. A cylindrical plastic feeder hangs from the perch and is empty. It has a lime green roof, sheer plastic silo and dark gray saucer. A hollow tube runs through it as a part of design so the feeder can be mounted on a pole. Green trees are in the background.A close up of the starling, that is facing the viewer, a tiny bit turned to the left and head turned also to the left and enough to help the bird see me. I was, of course, encouraging the little feathered friend, that has a long and pointy bill, to eat and not be afraid of the terracotta pot. The bird was very cautious, sneaking around it and jumping away the moment he hit the ball.

I Went for a short walk and harvested some scattered wheat, that still grows around the field and a lot of poppy seed heads. Then I split the bouquet and installed it on birdy and bug island. Also.. mushrooms.
A hand in a greenish camouflaged long sleeve holds a thick bouquet of foraged wheat and tiny poppy heads.vYhe sun is shining from the left. Bird and bug island is in the background.Top view of the bug island showing all the tree trunks chunks, sticks and a few plants. On the left stands makeshift lookout tower, I mean, perch for birds made of our shrub branches, the wood is hard and most resilient. Big rocks are set throughout the island. A base of an old cherry tree is in the background to the right, narrower tree trunk on the left in the background. I created islands and meandering paths almost everywhere. Found rocks create swirls and edging. A big mushroom with a smaller one by its foot emerged from below the cut dry grass by the road, ground level view. On a sunny day in an already newly grown grass. A circular road sign and the hill are in the background.

A learning curve for chaotic sparrows trying to snatch some all-year-round-type suet, while pushing and snapping had to change into staying in the line, mostly, hover like a hummingbird, strengthen legs, so they can hold onto the feeder and gain some good balance when it comes to dangly feeders. 🪶

I have a lot of plants, planters and an ever growing seed pile, most of them foraged, some from the neighbour and some store bought. It will be interesting once I have to move them inside the house.
To plant and replant. View of a light gray kitchen counter with a florist yellow wrapping paper spread over the top with all the seeds, nuts and two plants to manage. Foraging and actually planting are two separate quests and hobbies. Two small paper bags with thyme and rosemary seeds are in the bottom right corner. Climbing vines in a tiny nursery pot are in the top left corner. African violets, that grew from my mum's flower's leaves. That plant was living on the kitchen table by the window. Around all of this chaos are horse shoe halves, that I found recently, dating way back to the square holes and forged nails.
