#Booksky Spooktacular 2026 Day 17: No book conveys that all-consuming, mind-numbing sense of COLD quite like The Terror by Dan Simmons. Blending historical novel, psychological thriller, and supernatural creature feature, it’ll make you want a nice blanket and a hot cup of tea.

…bench-press me,” a frisson of potent body horror, and blend it all together with Dawson’s keen ear for character, and you know you’re in for a grisly good time. A read that’ll make you feel queasy and want to say, “Good for her!” at the same time. As delicious as (non-burnt) cornbread. 2/2

How about a little Midlist Author Truths post? A few Launch Week Thoughts? Because when I was early in my career, launch week felt very different. There was a level of hope and possibility and energy, and it was so much easier to get in the Top 20 on Amazon. But now? Oof. 1/

#Booksky Spooktacular 2026 Day 15: Following up a long read with a short read, Cassandra Khaw’s Nothing but Blackened Teeth is a gnarly East-meets-West horror novella. You’ll hate some of these characters (complimentary!) and be on the edge of your seat waiting for their fates.

Marketing every new fantasy with a romantic element as romantasy does a disservice to readers and writers. Romance & fantasy have different expectations (no shade to either), so a romance in a fantasy setting is NOT THE SAME as a fantasy with romantic subplots. Everyone just ends up annoyed

Absolutely what this student says. One of the most profoundly sad things about AI boosters is that they seem not to understand that the journey is more important than the destination, the thinking, the understanding, the revelation that comes along the journey is what matters, not the end product.

A cutaway view of a stone tower containing an elaborate water-powered medieval geared machine. Rising out of the machine is a rainbow-tinted, pixelated God with the robes, beard and all. The background is a set of shining golden rays, emanating from pixel-God.

We need to start writing near-future science fiction that refers back to a period in the past known only as 'The Last Days of the Billionaires'. There'd be no obligation to explain what happened to them, just that it was historically inevitable. Let us create the expectation of world without them.
