No matter where you shop, you're getting screwed by Amazon. Amazon has found a way to make everything you buy - at Target, at a mom-and-pop shop, even direct from the manufacturer - more expensive. And they're not the only one: Expedia's done the same thing, but for hotel rooms.
A faded, scratched postcard advertising the 'Edge of Town Motel.' Next to the motel sign is a vast pink piggybank, out of whose slot rises a motel key on a diamond keychain, emblazoned with a metallic dollar-sign.

The key point. It will be for the historians of the future, probably, to find any evidence of whether Trump is manipulated to do Putin's bidding. But we can all ask ourselves the question: *IF* he were working for Russia, what would he do differently to what he is doing now?

The problem with “just a bit” of AI or “ethical” AI is creative arts is that you start to erode, well, creativity and then you’re just splitting hairs on how much erosion. I won top prize in 2nd grade for my science fair project on erosion, I know this stuff!

You're absolutely right. Of course, they know parts of the media are obsessively still on X, but @libdems.org.uk should definitely be thinking of bypassing the media (who mostly have a policy of deliberately ignoring them anyway).

One wonders if that means the BBC insisted on a recognisable, iconic Police Box shape, perhaps even for copyright reasons, or did the designers make that choice? On the other hand, while I like the Daleks, I'm a bit surprised to see them so altered - I trust the Nation Estate signed off on this?

Trevor Smith @trevv69.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
One might almost say it's more faithful to the core Police Box design than some of the BBC props over the years - Police Box written over the doors, right no of panels, windows the right size (lol), there's even indications of the full Pull To Open panel in the right place on the door./7

Oh, one aspect of this image is most interesting: the TARDIS itself. Unlike the Daleks, the blue box which floats off to the side of the picture is almost religiously faithful to the original. Sure it has a cartoony curve rather than straight lines, but everything else is as it should be/6

...for there is nothing to say either. More likely this is an original antagonist for this young Doctor and his TARDIS crew. Overall, the image is colourful, giving vibes of action, and the mildest of danger - the Daleks are silly-looking in their malice, so the threat level is minimal./5

In the middle distance, standing on a "moon" or asteroid, overlooking the scene, is an angry faced figure with a severe hairstyle, and a demanding finger pointing into the air. The attire seems female-coded, and the impression is that this is a villain. I would hesitate to say Rani or Missy.../4

The Dalek eye-stalks have more obvious eyes on them, and the grill sections have been re-imagined as mouths, with different expressions. These Daleks are going to be much easier for small children to "read" than the originals, and that's not a bad thing given the audience./3

The Doctor is accompanied by a companion in a skirt and boots, a pink baseball bat and ginger hair, holding a pink, green-eyed creature reminiscent of a piggy bank(!). Together, I guess this is the TARDIS crew of the title. The crew are apparently surrounded by cuddly looking Daleks. /2

Let's overanalyze this image, shall we? 1) The Doctor is a young person with spiky blue hair, running towards the "camera", wearing a puffer jacket, wielding a large sonic screwdriver like a torch. 2) He is holding the arm of a miserable-faced robot with a head/body formed from a toaster. /1

The media generally are hypnotised by Trump, all the more for the fact he spews our nonsense. The occasion last week when he spewed nonsense but no mics were there to record it, finally answered the classic philosophical question about the tree falling in the forest. Did we miss anything? No.

‘Humanism is important for me because it puts a name to the beliefs and values that so many non-religious people like me already have. It gives those values a proper place in our society and in our lives. It’s not just me saying ‘I think this’. In fact, I’m part of a community of like-minded people with similar ideas, approaches, and moral convictions. And we’re so much stronger when we come together.’

I'm late 50s. By rights, I shouldn't be up with modern music trends. But it seems these days artists have a problem, they are competing on streaming platforms that pay a pittance against every track ever released by every artist. That wasn't the case when all you could buy were the singles...

It's universal, and it's the real life version of that "stealing your cookie" meme. It's the Schroedinger's immigrant (both "living off our taxes" and "stealing our jobs") as well.

I'm afraid "They get given everything" is the narrative I've heard about immigrants all my life. I remember hearing it from family members, other white people on the street or in pubs. Of course, what was fifty years ago word of mouth is now spread online at the speed of data.

I’m so tired of people saying that AI can be useful. So was asbestos. And lead. I don’t expect to halt the use of AI but I do wish we could just say “there are harms and we don’t know enough to call it safe or exciting”. And we definitely shouldn’t let it be used in schools.

This is fair. But what you have to do is give people the chance to vote for more than two options, without sacrificing the ability to say "ok, so you didn't all go for my idea of getting candy floss, but I'd rather go get ice cream than drive off a cliff".

People want electric cars. Sure, people want them to work like their current cars do, and infrastructure like sufficient charging points is *the* big issue. Improved public transport is also part of the mix. But watering down targets solves nothing.

a) I don't think he has the wit to think of that remark, and as for his cronies... b) There comes a point where some very senior politicians and dictators lose their sense of humour and treat every joke as a threat. Farage seems to have got there before even becoming PM.

For years, Telegraph columnists told us climate breakdown is a hoax. Now they say: it's real, but it's too late to do anything about it, so let the bodies pile high (again). Just one long list of excuses not to reduce fossil fuel use. Such newspapers bear as much responsibility as the oil firms.

This is a disturbing but excellent piece by @emmavj.bsky.social on how smart tech is being used by perpetrators to gaslight and conduct psychological abuse. Good on the FT for running it on the front page of their ‘House and Home’ supplement www.ft.com/content/8a42...
Timings on the clock are altered so school pick-ups and appointments are missed, making that person appear unreliable, unable to trust even themself. Electricity controls can be tweaked so household
appliances and lights turn off. The television can be switched on at full blast to disrupt sleep. One woman describes remote tampering with the boiler and heating, making the space feel uncomfortable, unlivable even. Another tells of a partner eavesdropping over smart speakers after an occupation order forced him to leave the home and cease contact. The people sharing their stories don't want to reveal their real
names to protect their safety.
