This is just a reminder that if you’ve read #Rumi in English, no you haven’t. Not because of pure linguistic fidelity, but rather his main translator minimized the islam in his poetry for an American audience. Islam is central to his poetry.

The saxophone, as a reed instrument, features a noise-heavy rasp, a sound dependent on the physical characteristics of wind (breath) over flexible plant material (originally, before, but what does before mean if time happens to be a circle) reducing the signal tone of the instrument slightly.

There is a lot of conflation between LLMs and AI. LLMs are nowhere near AGI, but despite that, there are some AIs currently that may indeed qualify as AGI. They are not LLMs though. Reminding people that there are autonomous AI labs doing real science currently, making new materials and viruses.

It’s a little bit shocking some of the words that the New York Times doesn’t recognize. Bimini is one of them. A bimini is the name for the cover of a cockpit of a sailboat. Moby Dick is one of your great books. You don’t recognize nautical terms?

I feel like there’s a deep-dive investigative story about how Apple ditched the AI race. From innovating Siri to choosing to sit on the sidelines when everyone went ape over LLMs (still don’t fully understand why apart from unsubstantiated claims of increased productivity), something happened.

I used to think humans should look at themselves as stewards of the earth rather than conquerors, as if that attitude could improve our behavior towards earth. I’ve changed my mind. Even that is too arrogant an attitude towards something we don’t understand fully. We are part of earth, nothing more.
