Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 09/05/2026I forget that people will often dismiss this subgenre as "not video games" albeit by definition it is interactive media, and like you said video games can be whatever a creator wants. Sorry if the way I described it touched a pain spot. 010
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 09/05/2026I mean in all fairness the guy was asking an earnest question, I gave an earnest answer. If it came off as blunt dismissive I apologize as that wasn't my intent (social interaction over text lacks tone please forgive me haha). 120
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 09/05/2026I mean this respectfully, there are all kinds of people who enjoy all kinds of games. Some enjoy games where there is a feeling of risk, some enjoy games for a story and experiencing the visuals. Call it a red flag if you want, but this medium is vast and people are here for different reasons. 110
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 09/05/2026It is more of a movie that asks you to press buttons from time to time similar to a David Cage or Telltale game than something like Mario. I have seen people say you can put the controller down in most cases and the game will play itself or not let you have a fail state. Great if you enjoy that. 010
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 08/05/2026I think it's a step in the right direction but my adrenaline pumps much higher because its a long time investment into a single life. Never been the biggest fan of the genre, and this helps, but it makes it easier to go in with friends who play more than me. Multi-life modes are way less stressful 010
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 08/05/2026From a designer and gamer standpoint, if they gave me meaningful PVE content, or introduced a lower stress arena shooter style mode (death match, modes from classic Marathon), I would play a lot more often. The core game is so high stress I can do maybe 2 or 3 runs before I'm actually exhausted lol 230
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 08/05/2026I'm thankful it seems like Sony sees some promise in Marathon enough to keep the lights on at Bungie for now and try to turn around some parts of the game. It would be horrible to see 1000 more people lose their jobs over this 100
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 08/05/2026Thinking about how there really isn't a lot of representation of red headed folks like myself in games. Hair colors are much brighter and too orange. If there is a red head, they have overly pale skin and a ton of freckles, and blue eyes, unlike myself. Maybe I should change that in my own work :) 030

Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 27/04/2026Been getting recommended BF4 vs BF1 vs BF6 shorts in YouTube. Insane how a game that released this last year with 4x the budget can barely keep up with a game released more than 10 years ago. I don't think the manpower and money cost is justifying the means in terms of fidelity of this point 000

Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 27/04/2026There is a very striking amount of folks that actually dont care or think they can just fit a higher position or some mystical option they think that they have. I am always baffled by it. I'm thankful a lot of game mechanics are complex enough that most AI code tools mess up too much to be useful. 030

Reposted by TrevJasozz @jasozzgames.bsky.social · 23/04/2026I've been tinkering with a "spoopy ghost" shader for Bonerooms and stumbled on a neat effect just using some noise to burn down the screen space color, which gives you a neat "ghosting" effect You can also invert the burn to get an additive "fog" look too #gamedev 1554
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 22/04/2026Incredible, every company that raised prices should have this type of lawsuit brought against them lol. Walmart, Target, major clothing companies, hardware stores, ALL of them. They did not pay that tariff money, the customers did. 000

Reposted by TrevMat Piscatella @matpiscatella.bsky.social · 10/04/2026Does everyone keep making extraction shooters because they don't know what else to do or what. Like, sure, there have been a couple hits. But the genre is far too niche to have THIS many games. 1816420
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 07/04/2026Something like underground, alternative, those may work too but also may be co-opted. Pauperized, Unbacked, and Unfunded/self-funded come to mind as well, but none really grasp at what we have that Indie game means. Maybe an entirely new word would work haha 020
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 07/04/2026I remember seeing a post from a fellow dev saying to call indie "incel" games not because of who its made by but because the industry won't take that word so readily. Homemade may work for a time but it will eventually be co-opted 110
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 07/04/2026They're using the word Indie these days to mean "AA" (Expedition 33 for example has an ample enough budget, and publisher to be called AA) It is driving me nuts. Mid budget and AA have always been a thing but people keep trying to declare a binary. You need a descriptor that they cannot take. 130
Reposted by TrevAerial_Knight @aerialknight.com · 07/04/2026These Big AAA studios never cared about being called indie till they found out they could steal the marketing from small team / small budget games We need to rebrand "indie" to "Micro game studios/teams" or something like that to represent what "indie" always really meant when it came to games. 1818117
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 04/04/2026I am aware there are engines that work well on Linux, I'd love to try them *someday* but for now I'm entrenched in Tim Sweeney land. Definitely have my eye on S&box for the future with their deal with valve 👀 100
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 04/04/2026Dreaming of a world where I can use Unreal on Linux and not have terrible conflicts/be able to build for windows working with team members who are on windows. Honestly one of the only things holding me back from swapping these days 💔 100
Reposted by TrevSupper Mario Broth @mariobrothblog.bsky.social · 03/04/2026One version of the Mario Bros. arcade has an oversight where reaching 980,000 points gets a Game Over. This happens because the game starts giving Mario extra lives on every frame, overflowing the life counter. As such, he is literally killed by being showered with extra lives. 261683324

Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 28/03/2026Again, "inventing cool shit" means you can patent it and copyright it. You create your own software license. Not everything is MIT or GNU licensed or open source. 010
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 28/03/2026If you are like me, and you work in video games or commercial software that uses github as a service *at all* it is in-fact IP theft. Taking bespoke and unique game mechanics for example that have been and can be patented *is* IP theft. 110
Trev @treversmith.bsky.social · 27/03/2026I hate to be negative about it but I guarantee you they've been doing it anyways. Anything exposed to web at all is being crawled by scrapers and any repo that exists for AI to read, it's reading them. 1190
