Aontú voting with the government to extend the so-called Help To Buy scheme which is really a Help to Profit scheme for developers. All the research shows that this just pushes up property prices to the benefit of developers. Instead we should build social and affordable homes.

We've been trying to buy a house for years and we've seen the prices respond to every "assistive" measure in real time. It doesn't help the buyer. It's a sly way to give more public taxes to developers. The most importan lever to bring prices down long-term is building social housing.

Holding fire here, but if as is reported the Govt delays the rise in the minimum wage, while pushing the bands at the higher end then this will further increase market income inequality here. We’re already the worst in the EU. 30% of workers are paid less than the living wage. WTAF, Ireland.

Garvaghy Road: There Are Not Two Sides. The mainstream media present the standoff on Garvaghy Road as a clash between 'two sides' and urge 'calm'. Here Eamonn McCann disputes the 'two communities' approach and explains why the Orange Order is a deeply sectarian organisation. Link to read in comment

Always funny when people get pissy about, of all things, *work to rule*. They are still doing their jobs, to the letter of the law in fact. That is causing problems is a serious indictment of how much extra people are expected to do in their job.

Hungary’s ex-PM Viktor Orbán is the most recent extremist to visit Belfast. A repressive anti-LGBTQ+, anti-migrant patriarch with Russian links is who anti-choice Precious Life's Bernie Smyth is doing selfies with. We won right to choose, it’s going nowhere as long as we are here to fight for it.

Personally I think it's 'deeply unfair' that 'lower level' public sector workers are so badly paid many need to claim Working Family Payment just to survive. Think about that. FFFG force civil servants to claim social welfare rather than pay them a living wage directly via payroll. #SpéirGhorm

We committed in 1998 for our children. And we are now back to having to do this again. In 1998, three brothers - Jason (8), Mark (9), and Richard (10) Quinn were killed on the 12th of July as a petrol bomb set their house on fire. The RUC linked the murders to the Garvaghy Road dispute. Today:
