Dating yourself is its own adventure. I take me to the darndest places. Conversations could be better, though.

The glorification of struggle is a coping mechanism. And a terrible one at that.

It's hard to let go of things, people and places — especially when one or them is yourself. Our brains are wired to fear loss and cling to what feels familiar. I think my nervous system has been choosing a known struggle over an unknown future, but that's not safety. It's just complacency. Hubris.

My relationships have to be too. Not just in the romantic sense, but all of them. Across the board. I have thickened heart walls literally and figuratively.

Been through a lot the last year trying to recover from nearly dying with a hypertensive crisis. I'm learning that I can't take everyone and everything with me — just because that's what I want. Or because it's what I used to do. My relationship to stress is different now.

The plan is to get the rear wheel of my bike trued today at a mom and pop I found nearby. They don't open for another hour or so, but it will be nice to get back on the road. I'd begun to miss my evening rides — they were kind of like a moving meditation.

Waking up migraine free finally. I think the main thing that's been stressing me out is finally resolved. Maybe not cleanly, but it's a start. Just have to keep moving forward and focus on the things I can control while protecting my peace.

This was dinner today. Still have to make food even with a migraine, so it was a one pot meal today and minimal effort. Yesterday was Salisbury steak, so I've got enough leftovers not worry about cooking for a bit (at least not dinner). #foodsky #stew #onepot

I've had a migraine off-and-on the last 9/15 days and it's starting to take a toll. Hard to focus or be creative/productive as a writer and be a good caregiver. I know it's stress, but the stress isn't going anywhere. Maybe I need to mediate more or find some other release.

Dead Alive (1992) - Directed by Peter Jackson This is a cult classic and one of many odd horror movies I plucked out a local video store as a kid (I definitely should not have been watching this, but it's still a favorite). Don't watch expecting LOTR.

I think people have a hard time admitting they have “regular” addictions, like sex or gambling or alcohol, because “addict” has a connotation to it. You hear addiction & think homeless on the street causing harm to people. No, you can be a functioning addict to something.

Up half-watching Bewitched (I used to love watching reruns when I stayed home from school as a kid). Even knowing his why as an adult Darrin treats Samantha pretty unfairly with her magic usage in hindsight. Gladys Kravitz was nosy AND gaslit. Also... who puts a garage door opener button outside..?

So since I’ve been getting my professionalism as a writer so legit setting up a manuscript consultancy & needing to flesh out & start writing the novel burning me in a while to go for a fellowship opportunity I wanna share my new artist’s statement on my CV. This is me as an artist.

ARTISTC VISION
My vision as a multi-genre artist and intellectual who publishes novels, poetry, and both lyric and critical essay is to serve the African diaspora from my role within it as a shamanic storyteller or griot. Much of my work concerns the Black American south, but I extend to the continent of Africa and mssy vision is expansive of Africans worldwide.
Characteristic of my fiction is its formal and stylistic experimentalism and innovation, which I use as a tool to break the paradigm white supremacy sets on how we experience space and time and comes out of a fundamentally African worldview, where the supernatural is reality.
This is also how I use my gifts as a mad person who travels realms of altered perception naturally in my neurodivergent ways of being in my creative work, both fiction and poetry.

Morning. Here's a lame selfie of me not knowing what to do with my hands. Also, if you don't like "My Neighbor Totoro" your taste is highly suspect.

Wherein a bespectacled White takes an awkward bathroom selfie with a toothbrush in his right hand. He's wearing a black Totoro shirt and black swimming trunks with pink sharks, a baseball cap cocked slightly to the side. The bathroom itself has bluish green tiled walls.
