Brilliant checklist for trans people working with therapists from Therapists Against Conversion Therapy and Transphobia. therapistsagainsttransphobia.org/2026/08/26/n...
A set of prompts and questions for anyone looking to understand if their therapist is trans-affirming. The image is in two columns - red flags and green flags. The resource is created by “therapists against conversion therapy and transphobia” and at the bottom is the TACTT website: www.therapistsagainsttransphobia.org.

The image text reads: Heading: Is my therapist Trans Affirming?

Column 1: Green Flags
Subheading 1: Identity and Autonomy.
Respects different choices and stages of social and medical transition.
Listens to and validates your experience without deciding for you.
Supports you through transphobia without suggesting you change.
Subheading 2: Knowledge and Beliefs.
There’s no “right way” to be trans, cis, man, woman, or any other gender.
Recognises impact of being visibly or openly trans.
Respects experiences that don’t fit familiar frameworks.
Encourages self-advocacy and promotes trans joy.
Doesn’t assume trans identity is caused by trauma or fear of being gay, etc.
Educates themself about trans issues, terminology & current happenings.
Understands that dysphoria is not universal and experiences vary.
Is informed about trans history & how wider systems shape trans experiences.
Recognises neurodivergence doesn’t disprove or cause trans identity.
Supports your exploration without an agenda to change your identity.
Subheading 3: Understanding Transphobia.
Understands mental health difficulties result from social injustice, not identity.
Understands trans-specific misogyny, fatphobia, racism and other bigotry.
Understands gatekeeping, barriers to and disparity within trans healthcare.
Understands non-binary and GNC-specific challenges and bias.
Subheading 4: Language and Respect.
Owns mistakes, such as misgendering, without centering themself.

Column 2: Red Flags
Subheading 1: Identity and Autonomy.
Repeated misgendering, degendering or refusal to use appropriate language.
Refers to your past self using deadname or assigned sex at birth.
Doesn’t accept …

TACC, @translucent.org.uk, @transsafety.network, and @transexilenetwork.bsky.social have written to Amnesty International UK over the withdrawal of its reports on the UK’s anti-rights movement and its subsequent apology to gender-critical organisations.
Dear Amnesty International UK,
We are writing to convey our deep concern about your recent decision to withdraw the reports “A growing
threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK” and “Like a Snowball”, and your subsequent apology,
published 31st July 2026, to gender-critical and other anti-trans organisations.
We understand you have already received significant backlash, so we want to assure you that we are
writing in good faith and in a spirit of constructive engagement. As a trans-led advocacy group in the UK,
we are aware of the intense pressure you are under.
Given the near media monopoly enjoyed by gender critical organisations, we can understand the need you
felt to act swiftly and decisively. Unfortunately, we believe you’ll now find yourselves in an even more
difficult position. Gender critical organisations are already indicating that they don’t consider your
retractions and apology adequate. At the same time, a large portion of the LGBTQ+ community in the UK
has lost confidence in one of the few internationally-respected, human rights organisations.
The trans+ community, and our allies, have immense respect for Amnesty, as renowned advocates for
human rights around the world. Indeed, your website’s front page states in bold type "We fight for
people’s human rights everywhere". You have made, and continue to make, a positive difference to
countless lives.
As your reports clearly pointed out, there is presently a highly organised and well-funded attack on
LGBTQ+ rights happening across the globe, with a strong focus currently on trans+ rights.
Even within the wider global perspective, the UK stands out as having one of the worst rollbacks of LGBTQ+
rights in modern history outside of Russia and America. Trans+ people are now fleeing the country, some
leaving behind their friends and families.
What is most worrying in all of this is the complete withdrawal of both reports, with no indication of when,
or if, “Like a Snowball” will be updated and reissued....The corpus analysis in Snowball was undertaken by
Dr Fraser Heritage, a Senior Lecturer in Linguistics at Manchester Metropolitan University, and it appears
to be a high-quality piece of linguistic research.
When "Like A Snowball" was published, it was a beacon of light, flickering amidst the darkness of an almost
total capture of the media and the established UK human rights by the gender critical ideological
movement. Following up with "A Growing Threat" felt brave, and it clearly rattled many gender critical organisations.
We can understand why both were withdrawn if deemed not robust enough to defend against legal
challenge; however, the withdrawal without the possibility of a corrected reissue is, in our opinion, a step
too far.
To follow that with what seems like a forced apology, framed in gender critical terms, looks like
capitulation. It leaves our marginalised community feeling even more abandoned and isolated in the face
of relentless attacks on our rights, our healthcare, even our very existence.
The simple fact of producing these reports in the first place is a clear indicator of your organisation being
convinced there are serious human rights issues to address. If Amnesty doesn’t look to republish, then the
silence grows louder, and trans+ rights are further diminished.
We would like to request an urgent Google meeting with your CEO, Kerry Moscogiuri. A meeting where we
would discuss where this leaves Amnesty International UK in terms of defending LGBTQ+ rights in the
present UK wide hostile environment.
Your faithfully,
Trans Advocacy & Complaints Collective

Participants in Dr Horton's study contrasted abuse under GIDS and the new Children and Young People’s Gender Service with the affirmative approach of WellBN GP practice, which provided real space for exploration and reflection. WellBN is now under NHS investigation for providing this care.
Interviewees reflected upon a very different approach to being questioned within affirmative services. One parent commented that “I think she probably trusted [affirmative GP] more because he was trans—That first appointment was extraordinary because [adolescent], I think, felt seen for the first time, felt heard… and I felt like he was asking questions that were pertinent”. Several parents felt that an affirmative service created a safe space where trans adolescents could speak honestly about their feelings and their worries. One parent described seeing their child open-up more in one affirmative appointment, than in 2 years in a non-affirming service:

I was just quite blown away. I was like, Wow. We sat in that office for 45 minutes. I came out like almost puzzled. I’m like years. I was almost ** angry when I left, about the Tavistock again. In f****** years. Never once has somebody sat down and talked to my daughter like that, like she’s a person and it’s not an interrogation. It’s just a holistic health approach to a trans young person. It was wonderful actually.

I sit on the Joint Committee on Human Rights. One of the issues concerning me is what scrutiny and accountability the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s new code of practice and guidance will have from this House. My understanding is that it will be laid before the House as a negative statutory instrument, meaning that unless the Leader of the Opposition pushes for time and scrutiny, there may be none. Will the Leader of the House outline what opportunities Members will get to scrutinise that guidance when it is published?

I know the new guidance from the EHRC is of great interest to many Members across this House; it is something that I get many emails and correspondence about myself. A parliamentary process will sit alongside that, but I will absolutely ensure that there is appropriate time to debate and discuss these issues, which I know are important to the House.
