interesting that conservatives were militantly “we must reward hustle” when the target was affirmative action at elite universities and now, when faced with the success of south asians and other groups, it is “i think we are too meritocratic”

I do not mean to single out LeBron James, but it feels completely bizarre to me that an active player is allowed to promote "prediction markets" but would get banned for life for using that service to bet ten dollars on their own team to win a game.

Just saw someone say their AI runs their fantasy football team and I can’t stop laughing. Like, I’m sure everyone’s doing it or something but it’s very funny to me that pretending to be a team manager was so hard that you needed to pretend to pretend to be a team manager

it was smart of jacob geller to only post about what he did to his 50k followers on here instead of to his 1.5 million youtube subs or on his patreon. that way fewer people know about it and he limits the financial hit

In general though I'd say if a person truly loved any film that seemed calibrated to be very uncomfortable to watch (Requiem for a Dream comes to mind), that's a big side eye for me.

I think it's good and appropriate for boys to go through a phase where they think Chuck Palahniuk is cool and profound and transgressive, and then transition into thinking Tarantino is High Art, and then become old enough to drink alcohol in public and realize there's more out there

Yeah it's funny and disturbing how the people asserting the AI is "thinking" or "understanding" just end up revealing a disturbing lack of depth in their conception of other people's subjective experience of the world.

It's got a pulse no doubt about it. I'm interested to see how they build on it next week

All the beat reporters that chortled at fans clamoring for Efton Chism to get more chances (which didn't include me tbh) look pretty silly rn

We're down to 2 minutes and Drake Maye has the ball with a chance to win it with a touchdown on the road. I have zero confidence but it's nice to have gotten here

I'm sure the steel man argument for it is to control the clock, make the game come down to just a possession or two, blah blah Bottom line is it's what you do when you don't believe in your guys to produce when things get tight

He did this with Tom Brady, to be fair

Well, three quarters of competent ball against a decent opponent on the road is a big improvement. I guess I'll take it.

Trey'Veyon Henderson has to be one of the worst running backs I've ever seen at turning any given touch into something positive. He stinks. I don't care if he occasionally has a big run.

1 point game. Fourth quarter. On the road. Time for two runs up the gut and a screen pass to nowhere. Let's go Josh!

The number one rule with the Eagles is it will always feel like they're losing even if they're winning

I'm trying to decide if the Bills are maybe just really bad on defense, which is probably true. But running functional offense against anybody is a big accomplishment for this team

T. Ferox @transferox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Classic Josh McD. Holding onto a lead that everybody knows won't be enough to win? Time to turtle up so maybe people will blame the defense when you lose by 6

T. Ferox @transferox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
We are officially in the classic Josh McDaniels "call plays like you want people to blame the DC for the loss" phase of the game

Maybe it's selective memory but I feel like Meyers was reliable a lot more often than he wasn't That said Doubs has redeemed himself a bit since I said that, lol. Let's see if he carries that through the rest of the game

Also no punts allowed from the 50 or closer

T. Ferox @transferox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I kinda think it'd be fun if field goals were only allowed from the 50 or beyond

T. Ferox @transferox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Your invocation of Meyers is very apt imo bc another thing that I think is plaguing them is a lack of guys on offense that they've built up in house that they know they can rely on This team with Boutte and Meyers in place of Doubs and Pop Douglas isn't more talented but imo functions better

My theory is (1) the coaching is not as tight for ... reasons you can guess (2) injuries and the QB being a mess has everybody pressing, doing too much

T. Ferox @transferox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Positive spin on that 1st half for the Patriots: - The only interception Drake threw was not his fault - The Patriots ran an actual NFL offense with passes and everything, including mid range throws into zone coverage, and they were able to score 2 TDs
010
T. Ferox @transferox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
My feel for this game is that the Bills are unconcerned as long as they can keep pace with the Pats, they know they can outscore them by 10 in the fourth quarter if they need to

T. Ferox @transferox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
It's just incredible how the Patriots can never seem to do anything right with the receiver position
020
T. Ferox @transferox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Not the worst coach team I've seen by a long shot but I think the reality is they're not particularly disciplined and to a man they are trying to do a lot, which is exacerbated by the injuries. That's how you get a team that can't take little victories
100
T. Ferox @transferox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
The Patriots simply have an unbelievable knack for turning the ball over
110
T. Ferox @transferox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I do. At this point the only point of emphasis that really matters to me with Drake is that he focuses on not turning it over. He's had more than enough practice being in a collapsing pocket. He's got to just go down and hold on in those situations.

I think the effort to make the game faster was good for the reg season. But the whole point of playoff baseball is it's supposed to last forever and feel like an interminable slog. For a pitcher to get through a whole game should seem like a Titanic feat of mental and physical endurance
000
T. Ferox @transferox.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I miss the days when the way to win at baseball was to have a bunch of stocky bearded weirdos who made the pitcher throw 20 pitches to either get them to ground out or walk them

BC used to at least be somewhat decent and occasionally more so but it seems like in the last 10-15 years they've lost the ability to recruit and keep talent. I don't know enough about CFB to explain why

Where I think I've landed on it is that if we actually lived in a world where anybody who did SA was simply not able to do any job that involved interfacing with the public or cultivating an audience, that would be better than the world we actually live in
