My lovely bird son, Ophie, refusing to make eye contact with me because he knows he's in trouble as Sundance, my other cockatiel, was bitten by somebody and he's pretending he has NO IDEA who did it while one of her feathers that is 110% hers and could not functionally be his - hangs out of his beak. What a dingus.

Oh she is just the sweetest prettiest dog. I'm consistently impressed by how gentle and sweet adopted racers are. I have had....probably at least 10 during my lifetime as my parents really loved 'em and had honestly really good experiences. They're even gentle with small animals and kids.

The greyhound I'm talking about, Miss Blaze. She is laying in her dog bed in a super weird position with her gangly legs all up in the air on her back. She LOOKS uncomfortable but I can guarantee she was dead asleep if not comfortable as anything. Greyhounds do this thing called 'roaching' and it's because when they lay like this it kinda looks like a roach on it's back lmao.

I am very proud of my handiwork this morning [Recipe in Alt Text]

Depicted is my take on biscuits and sausage gravy from this morning. I used to go to a little gastropubby type place in NY that has since closed down but one of the things they made was an apple cider vinegar sausage gravy. The biscuits are pretty standard, I usually make a relatively standard recipe with the only special thing being that I put honey in them and I brushed the tops with a mixture of milk and maple syrup and then once they were out, sprinkled them with flake finishing salt.

For the gravy, into a hot pan I put a little avocado oil and started cooking up about a pound of pork breakfast sausage meat. Once it was done, I deglazed the pan with 1/2 cup of apple cider and 1/2 cup of maple syrup mixed. Once I let that go for a minute or two, I sprinkled in 3 tbsp of flour while whisking continuously and then carefully poured in 3 cups of whole milk. I whisked until the color is uniform (the fat did float up on top after and sit on the top but that's fine, it just needed time to reduce and cook down). Once reduced, seasoned with some salt, dark chili powder, smoked paprika and black pepper. The only thing I would change (because I just made this recipe up out of nowhere) is I'd cut the deglazing liquid with a little bit of apple cider vinegar for a tart touch.

I feel like my tablet case says it all

It's a picture of my tablet. The case itself is a lavender sort of color. The stickers are all in the same family of light/faded and/or pastel colors. It's got several stickers of different cherry blossoms from the same set as decorative stickers closer to the edges to fill empty space. It's got one sticker that says 'creepy' in drippy writing but it's all very pretty pastels, there's another sticker that is a heart in the same soft color motifs I've mentioned so far but it says 'emotionally exhausted', there's a butterfly sticker that says 'antisocial' and a little rainbow that says 'sounds like a you problem'. The tablet, if you couldn't read the stickers is giving soft magical boy/girl or pastel goth kinda but obvs the text is what makes it threatening and what i find personally comical.

This appears to be a post on what I think is mastodon? (I'm old and a bit of a luddite in spite of my programming chops so forgive me if I got that one wrong)

Anyway. I'm going to transcribe what it says from this point on:

"My biggest problem with the concept of LLMs, even if they weren't a giant plagarism laundering machine and disaster for the environment, is that they introduce so much unpredictability into computing. I became a professional computer toucher because they do exactly what you tell them to. Not always what you wanted - but exactly what you asked for.

LLMs turn that upside down. They turn a very autistic do-what-you-say, say-what-you-mean communication style with the machine into a neurotypical conversation talking around the issue, but never directly addressing the substance of the problem.

In any conversation I have with a person, I'm modeling their understanding of the topic at hand, trying to tailor my communication style to their needs. The same applies to programming languages and frameworks. If you work with a language the way it's author intended it goes a lot easier.

But LLMs don't have an understanding of the conversation. There is no intent. It's just a mostly-likely-next-word-generator on steroids. You're trying to give directions to a lossily compressed copy of the entire works of human writing. There is no mind to model and no predictability to the output.

It’s a screenshot of an interview from John Wick 2 presumably. Keanu is saying that he’s ’at that stage of my life where I keep myself out of arguments. Even if you tell me 1+1=5 - you’re absolutely correct, enjoy’ from his facial expesssions it seems humorous but I honestly agree.

All of these together coupled with an absurdly high follower count implies to me that this person is trying hard to farm engagement and just followed me to try and get me to indulge the natural human impulse to follow them back which - absolutely not.

A couple of treats from Montreal ☺️ Left is homemade and right we got at a chocolatier. The alt text has more detailed descriptions

We had this for dinner last night. It’s a baked lobster tail with garlic butter. I pan fried the chanterelle mushrooms and finished them with a generous amount butter and salt as is the way. On the right is Brussels sprouts I made with black garlic maple syrup and a seasoning mix that had salt, scapes, garlic and shallots.

This was called a pistachio raspberry bomb. It’s a genoise pistachio cake on the bottom and it’s filled with raspberry sauce and white chocolate and pistachio mousse. It was REALLY good. It didn’t taste like amaretto it had wonderful pistachio flavor. I really enjoyed it.

The Brussels sprouts are tossed in black garlic maple syrup and this seasoning mix I got which is amazing Chanterelles finished with butter and the same along with some regular salt (so as to have the most chanterelle flavor)

It’s a seasoning mix that I managed to pick up while on vacation in Montreal. It’s mostly in French but says that it’s ’garlic scale and shallot salt’. It was REALLY good and I’ve honestly already looked up ways to replicate it at home because I’d like to learn to make something this tasty

My tiny son likes to do his best rendition of free bird but unfortunately what he forgets is that he does not know how to fly and isn't very good at it. The little spots on his face are because he keeps bumping his head during his escape attempts. 😑

Eh not bad for something I came up with on a whim and had no concept of until like five hours ago. Blueberry and vanilla creme tart More details about each ingredient is in the alt text 😊

A blueberry and vanilla pastry cream tart. The tart crust is a traditional pâte sucrée followed by a layer of vanilla crème pâtissière or pastry cream. After that is a layer of blueberry filling made by cooking down blueberries with sugar, lemon juice and a little cornstarch as a thickening agent so it has more like a pie filling consistency. Since that was sweet on sweet on sweet, on the top you have sugared blueberries and sugared mint leaves along with lemon zest to try and cut through the richness and sweetness that's been added to the tart up to this point. The white peaks are a whipped cream frosting made with cream cheese which acts as a great stabilizer but also adding another tangy element to balance the different elements of the tart together.
